Anyone got any experience?

I am planning to do the whole thing - coast to coast - next year and it's info gathering time.

In particular - any good websites?
Season / weather?
Accomadation/food?

I have always wanted to go but assumed it would be by bike. However the most complete experience must be on foot. And whilst I still have the energy....

I know nothing about walking - anywhere!

I have a contact (brother in law's wife's sister) who runs some Gites near Miglos ( sounds like.......) My memory is a little rusty, it was several years ago that I visited, but it was close to Andora and a beautiful spot with fantastic mountain walks. If you are interested I can dig out details.

Coast to Coast must be quite a hike especialy if you take the high paths so I hope your in trainning not just collecting info. How long do you think its going to take?

I'm in the early days of research but walk for a living so not too worried about training. I've done many lengthy treks including the UK coast to coast and the Himalayas (albeit in my younger days) so don't feel daunted. I read somewhere that the entire route could take 40-50 days so I will allow at least 2 months cos I hate to be deadlined.

I believe there are several routes - a Spanish side route. a French one and the Haute route which crosses the border frequently but that involves proper mountaineering and ice axes and suchlike so I'll leave that alone.

Any info would be appreciated but I expect to camp out mostly so Gites would be a bit unnecessary.

I've been doing a bit of research myself for a bike trip six of us are doing next year - I'll post up a few links as I get them,
but it all depends where you intend to start from & wether you're camping, hostelling, or going B&B/hotels

We're taking the ferry to Santander (as the motorway trip through France tends to square yer tyres off) & stopping off at the Picos de Europa for a couple of days first.

I found this hotel to stay at first.

Wow I like the look of that - Gavarnie. And looks like there's plenty of cable cars so I may not be getting blisters after all

Here's a link to the Lac de Bouillouses, which is near Font Romeu, just to the East of Andorra - but it has links to lots of other lakes in the Pyrenees

Must admit, I'm far better acquainted with the Eastern Pyrenees & can give you loads more interesting places to visit there, if you're interested
