Don't get me wrong, it's great to see her fly again and i agree wholeheartedly agree about the lottery money going to a good home, but it's when you hear people going on about what an achievement it is with a budget that size.

And it's been longer than 3 years because they were trying to get her flying again the last time I went to Fairford which is at least 8 or 9 years ago

The campaign to get one flying again was started 10 years ago, but "The restoration project was kick-started by a £2.7 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2004."

I read the book about that mission, and whereas the 'can do' spirit of the services was as you would expect, the thing that stood out most was what a shower of shite the equipment was :smt002
Picking planes to fly missions on how little they veered to one side, if it had a fuel filler or if it actually had a radar capable of finding its way to the shops* kinda makes you wonder

And 6million isnt bad cos if we have to go over there again, it'll probably be the first to be borrowed. Just need another 10 or 20, some petrol from morrisons and a very long piece of string

Apologies, I stand corrected.

And reference Pierre's post about shite equipment and making do, 20 odd years on and it's still no better. Classic example, SNATCH Land Rovers that were designed to resist riots in NI sent out to Iraq where people complain that they're useless because they can't stand up to roadside bombs :smt013
