The ubiquitous Smiley-faceemoticon, created in 1982 by Carnegie Mellon University Computer Science Research Professor Scott E. Fahlman, turns 25 on Sept. 19, and Carnegie Mellon computer scientists are celebrating a milestone that revolutionized computer communication.
