Arse - just been robbed

Well, having spent the day up ladders painting the house, I finally got things cleaned up and put away by about 9:30pm, microwaved my tea (the rest of the family having eaten several hours before) eat it and then retired to the shower at about 10:20.

Half way through showering, my son Ben shouts "Dad, someone's nicked your car".
Unfortunately I'm not exactly dressed for hot pursuit ... mainly because I'm not exactly dressed at all - due to being in the shower.

Well, to cut a long story short, some low life managed to get their hand through the fan-light in the kitchen and open the kitchen window, picked up my keys which I'd temporarily left on the worktop, taken my (well, work's) Garmin Nav system (which I was hoping to use on the bike to get me to Cadwell on Monday) and also taken my digital camera. They'd then had no problem unlocking and starting the car but had crashed it into the wall getting it off the drive. That's when Ben noticed it leaving. This also alerted the neighbours who rushed round to check what was going on and rang the police while I threw some clothes on!

Well, I really can't complain about the police response - it was excellent. Fairly quickly 2 WPCs were here to check things out and get a statement. They had cars out looking for my car and had found it by the time the WPCs got to me. It was parked about a mile away (near the school where my wife teaches). Apparently the rear quarter is rather bashed up where they hit the wall getting it off of the drive. It's been taken away for forensics - should get it back tomorrow. Also forensics will come to our home tomorrow to fingerprint the window and surrounding area.

The car is a company car (which I was supposed to have changed last November but never bothered to) so I've not the same trauma as had they taken my bike or my wife's car. The camera going is a pain - pictures my wife took this week of friends she'd not seen in years etc.
Biggest issues are the keys to the house and garage. They've not been recovered. Fortunately I can make the house secure tonight (and have done so) and have parked my wife's car right up against the garage door. Have to try to get new locks tomorrow.

My wife and youngest son don't cope well with things like this. We had a couple of burglaries when he was young and he had nightmares for years about them. He's 16 now but I can see he's really upset by this. I can guarantee my wife won't sleep tonight.

There again, it's late now and I will sleep - so I'm off to bed.

Sort it all out in the morning!

Its the emotions and the feeling of vulnerability that last.
If you were single, oh how cool it would be to wait in a darkened house for them to try the keys?

Probably get knicked for attempted murder though :smt009

Fucking wankers. They same thing almost happened at our house a while back. It was about 1.30am when I heard a bang. The twats tried to get in through a window to get the wifes keys (it was a company A4 at the time). Luckily the locking mecanisim held and I scared them away. Police were phoned and they came out. Turns out that it had happened just down the road not ten minutes after it happened to us, only they were unfortunate and lost a new VW passat. just broke in and nicked the keys, bam , car gone.

FYI....... They used a garden spade to try and lever the window open, our spade as well, the scummy twats. There is nothing like that in the garden now. Hindsight eh!!!!

Anyway. Hope things go well for you and yours. If the CSI's get any prints then you will more than likley get an arrest.
Also tell your family that the car was stolen to order and they were not after anything else. It might help them get past this a bit easier.

Sorry to hear that Andy, nothing worse that some low-life scrote invading your home. Hope they catch the scum and get your stuff back, but unfortunately I don't hold out much hope for the return of your belongings. Main thing is, they've taken "stuff", which can be replaced

Opportunistic little tw*ts

:smt009 Hope yer Son (and wife) manage to shrug it off fairly quickly. I had my Cortina broke into when I was a teenager. I was livid, but also felt very vulnerable. It wasnt nice at all.

Nowadays I dont feel that same vulnerability, still liable to feel it but not as much as Im more liable to turn round and take action against anyone who was to do that. :smt018

Thanks for the good wishes - much appreciated.

Getting things sorted - changed the locks today ... at special bank-holiday weekend premium rate .... If you can wait 'till Tuesday sir it will be quite a lot cheaper.
Hopefully the insurance will pick up the cost but if not it's still worth it to help the others feel less vulnerable.

Right - must go - get to get up at 4am to take my son Ben to the pick up point for his car parking job at Cadwell (hopefully get home and grab a bit more sleep before I meet up with Woodbutcher and we follow on to Cadwell to meet up with those other Falconeers attending).

Damn Andy, I know how you and your family must be feeling. It's gut wrenching feeling when some scum has been on and inside your property and taken the stuff you work hard for. Hope the family settle down soon Best wishes.

Hope you all manage to cope with this trauma, Andy.
It's about time something was done about this scum, they should get proper sentences, not some useless community service order.
