I was going to explain to current RSers the history of RS and TS. There is some acrimony between to two sites. I personally dont have any axe to grind but I would really like to hear any valid reasons why this should be.

From my perspective when RS became difficult for the mods to administrate because of lack of direction/updates/and probably motivation..another site was born as an option. Strangely but in retrospect understandably, a good percentage of those that had formed RS migrated to the new site.

Some diehard RSers considered this treason and rejected the new option, rightly if thats how they felt.


I dont say this without any affection for RS, in fact I organised many parties and have had prolly 20-30 Rsers staying at my house on occasions. I was there at the beginning handing out flyers for RS at Box Hill and for the Locksbottom/ Hastings run 20 odd (and I mean odd!) people turned up at my house at 9.00am for bacon sarnies.

I sprayed the RIOT Aprillia racer for nothing to promote RS though I have no interest in bike racing, for Jorge when he was instrumental in this site.

I would really appreciate any valid reason why there is acrimony?

Interesting to read again your perception of the history between RS/TS.
I see no animosity. People have always moved on from time to time.
TS is a useful vehicle for keeping in touch with some of them by PMs, as are other sites.

I would be interested to know by PM why you thought the need to 'explain' histories of RS and a wholly unconnected venture. I dont get it.
TS has absolutely nothing to do with RiderSite apart from members went over to it in the weeks before RS4 came about. TS had been about long before RS ever had problems in it's previous guise. I was assured of that by the TS Site owner. It wasnt another site born as an option. If it was then I guess I have been lied to blatently. .

Actually, No. I think it was more Me and Sam. I went into the Moderation area within about 3 minutes of being made a Mod and sounded off. I also refused to back down on my beliefs and dug my heels in, rightly or wrongly. I upset more than a few people but there you have it. You cant please all the people all the time.. The Admin and Moderation team dissappeared when RS4 was born, with Hammy appointing Myself as Admin and backed up by Sam as a Mod for RS v4. The site's administration (not moderation) is pretty much left down to me. We've yet to find it overwhelming. A few choice IP addys added to the ban list, emails to the email list cut down on the spam from lots to minimal. I feel my bitching on the Mod channel was therefore valid on the Old RS.. I did the same there afterwards although havent bothered of late. The spam has got better and the Management did redo the forum. They even had time to save ARS from the scrapper too. It all happened just like I was told that it would when I emailed the management and got a reply. Anyways, that is History.

The only people who could possibly have any beef with TS are Myself and Sam. Neither of us do have any beef with TS bar the redragging up of a non subject about the 'war' or whatever between RS and TS that occurs on here. Sam I feel tries to return the annoyance by ways of his posts. Dont worry, they wind me up too.. I just get more and more wound up with the subject every time it is aired.



I'll lock this thread tomorrow as to be honest I see no point in holding a discussion about TS and Im bored of the fact this subject is dragged up or hinted to (by all parties) seemingly whenever someone mentions 'TS' on RS.. It achieves nothing as far as I can tell apart from raising awareness of a Site and drawing people to that Site. I never mention to any great extent (any, possibly) or link to RS on TS as Im very wary of that happening.

It's (locking thread tomorrow) not me 'gagging' members, it's me completely fucked off with the subject of RS / TS and taking action as a result of that and that alone. No consultations with Sam behind the scenes, just me stamping my foot down and throwing my teddybear.
I will however give it one day as a topic before locking it even though my own desire is to delete the thread. That's me with my diplomatic head on, well almost diplomatic head on.. Youre the only one who repeatedly brings the subject up Quzzy. I only assume from that that you are desperate for both Sites to somehow become closer?? It isnt really going to happen. RiderSite is RiderSite, always has been always will be. We have no probs with VD'ers dropping by when VD is down, it was an amicable arrangement and was taken well. Similarly there's no beef with any member of TS coming over here when or if TS goes down. Same thing goes. If individuals wish to be members of both Sites, they can be so. There's no law against it is there!! But on a Site to Site level, there is no closeness. Same as VD, MCN et al. No beef, just TS isnt RS, it's another bike website on the internet.

I personally dont visit TS that often. Im too busy with RiderSite, ARRSE and other 4 websites that Im involved with in some manner. To be honest I dont have the time, much the same as Visordown, Motoforum or MCN dont get visited. I know of them and do visit on the odd occassion, but usually I dont. I spend more time talking about the Army on ARRSE (and doing charity stuff with them) my cars on car sites and my bikes on here as well as talking shite to the ARS members in ARS.

I think Sam must use TS more than me to be honest..

Few know the real circumstances of the RS/TS "divide", being the person who created TS in 2002, and being instrumental in seeking support to continue RS, and using terrorist tactics to show busy people that their priorities needed attention, I am one of them.

I knew at the time that people would prefer their own individual perceptions, but none of them are the whole truth, including Quzzy's above. At the time something bold needed to be done to get the necessary interest from people in supporting RS and it was clear that whoever did so would end up being a pariah. But it was worth it. Inevitably some would think that there was some subterfuge and I knew in advance it would not be possible to change their minds. But that isn't actually important. The point is, Ridersite is still here and I am still very fond of the place.

I found Ridersite when my best friend from school died on one of the early Rideouts. No-one, not even the owners, could change how I feel about the place.

There isn't any acrimony that I can see, at all. The history is irrelevant. I was PM'ed to come and have a look at this thread here, and my conclusion is...

BFG as Ts's Admin and myself as RS's Admin (one of them) both hold the opionion that it achieves nothing to keep going over and over this. So there you have it.

I'm gonna post, even though Kwack has rightly locked it, simply because I can

RiderSite was created by myself and Jorge, along with Riot Racing and a few other things which didn't amount to much worth mentioning.

People's lives change, personally I'm busy doing other stuff and even though I consider myself a 'biker' I haven't had a bike for a couple of years now. Due to a certain amount of apathy on my part (and let's be honest, from other people too) RiderSite was lacking some management and direction for an extended period of time.

During this period, I guess I came to the conclusion that RiderSite had run it's natural course and it was probably right to let it finish. However, when I stepped forward again to assist in this 'wind-down' process, words from a few people struck a cord and I was reminded that like biking itself, RiderSite isn't just a 'thing' - it's a state of mind ... and as such it was worth saving. Corny? Definately! But also true. So together with Tim and Sam, we saved it - brought it back from the brink if you will!

Since then people have asked me what these words were that turned me around. I'm not saying, but it was from more than one person, some were negative and some were positive. I'll let you draw your own conclusions


Anyway. There is no acrimony, and no bad feelings between RiderSite and any other site. Not from my perspective anyway. Tim and Sam run this place and I couldn't be more pleased and proud of what they've accomplished. RiderSite will continue to evolve technically, visually and spiritually, we have sponsors who are committed to the long-term future of the place. And I know where to hang-out when I eventually get off my fat arse and get on two wheels again.
