Is there too many people reading the News?

I dont quite understand why it takes between two and three people on t.v. to read out the news ect. they stand, they sit, they move around. And now the ladies seem to have made a coup on the poor blokes, looks like they are out, period, mind you I still fancy Christine on Look North and the bird who reads the weather on Ch. 5 is all right as well! No wonder the ruddy licence keeps going up, it must be to pay all their huge wages.

Penny Smith (she does still do the weather doesn't she?)
Or that scottish one (was around for a few years but I've forgotten her name)

Not Kirsty Young, I think this one started about the same time as Penny Smith on GMTV (1994/5?)

I*ll tell you what, they both were a bit of all right when they were younger and frankly I fancy them now,
mind you I am the same age thereabouts.

Yes there are too many reading the news!
At least there were tonight - never thought much about it when two peeps sat at a desk, and each read alternate items, I can handle that.
But when it's a sorta double-act, two girlies side by side swopping sentences - wtf is all that about?
