Memories I would rather forget!

I was reading an article this afternoon that pointed out that next week will be the 20th anniversary of Michael Ryan going beserk in Hungerford.

I still remember that day like it was yesterday, and I remember getting home and seeing the look on my wifes face when she realised that I had been there all day and it was my buddy Roger that had been killed (A traffic cop who gave his life trying to save others), and then all the commotion after Ryan had cecided to top himself, but it was thought that he had booby trapped his body.

I don't let it rule my life, far from it, but at the same time I can't get away from the fact that i was there in the thick of it and there is probably hardly a day when I don't give a passing thought to that warm August day in 1987, but I could do without the reminders :smt009

I'm surprised to realise it was that long ago.
Can't hear the towns name without being back to that day.

One of those names, like Lockerbie, that will never be forgotten.

I think Sam's right.

If you mentioned the name Michael Ryan I would instantly reply, 'Ah Yes, Hungerford' or vice versa.

A horrid horrid day in the lives of many, Gone but not forgotten.

I agree with Sam and Kwackerz - something that none of us above a certain age will ever forget.
To have lost a mate in those events must be tough. Tough enough at the best of times - but doubly so when it's a 'high profile' situation with regular reminders.
Glad you got out safe TC - albeit with constant memories.

I travel through Hungerford quite often on my way to rallies or doing the RBR, and it always strikes me what a pretty peaceful little town it looks, considering what everone thinks of as soon as you say Hungerford.
