Statistics released by the Motor Cycle Industry Association for June 2007 show sales have sustained the summer increase during the month and the year-to-date registrations are up 8% overall.

Adventure Sport motorcycles has continued to grown and achieved the biggest increase of 31% , followed by Scooters with a 17% boost. Mopeds also had an increase of 6.5%, a positive shift for this sector which has been struggling.

The motorcycle market is continually showing strength in comparison to the car market where registrations are only up 1.5% for June and 2%for the year to date figure.

The Trail/Enduro sector remains under pressure, likely caused by changes to regulations about access to green-lanes and use of land for off-road recreation, and has seen a fall of 17% for the year-to-date.

Japanese manufacturers, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are dominating the top five registrations by capacity, with only two places taken by Triumph and Piaggio.

Craig Carey-Clinch. MCI's Director of Public Affairs said " The market remains healthy this month. Used bike transactions remain buoyant showing a 8% rise during the first quarter of 2007.

"New and used bikes sales are strong at a time when there are many personal financial pressures. As interest rates keep rising showing that people are still enjoying two-wheels and the industry's Now's The Time campaign is attracting new riders who are needed to sustain the industry in the coming years and prevent the market from stagnating."
