OK read Kwakz rules and regs and it's prompted this question.
After a bit of excellent news today I need some info on the in's and out's of exporting a Falco and an old Suzuki GSX 1100efe to Oz.
Any experiences advice?

Hey Falcopops,
Google is your friend.

It looks like the GSX will be trivial.

Alert - Importation of Vehicles Manufactured Before 1 January 1989
The Government has announced changes to the arrangements for the importation of vehicles 15 years or older. Under the new rules, vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1989 may be imported without restriction. Vehicles built during 1989 (or later) will need to qualify under the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS).

I think the idea is to get all the paperwork sorted out well in advance, and make sure that you cross every 'T' and dot every 'I'. Especially when it comes to the Customs people.
Oh, once the bikes are here, you will still need to get them registered. Some states have annual vehicle inspections (New South Wales), some don't.
The good news is that since both of those bikes were imported here by the manufacturers, you shouldn't have too much trouble with insurance.

Hey Falcopops,
Does this meen you are emigrating? or is that only if you can export the Falco?

Yes and Yes. The domestic management has been informed that two bikes will be in the crate even if that means leaving some furniture or a small child.
Should get a formal job offer in the nexty couple of weeks.

Viking will be pleased if it does happen.
Be sorry to see you go, but I've got friends and relatives over there and they'll never come back, they love it so much.
Good luck in the job application anyway.

Well I hope congratulations aren't premature.
Quite a few of my mates live there now and none to the best of my knowledge, are regretting the move...

Dale - just had a thought

which may be better than shipping the Falco out to Oz.
From what I remember, Exdukenut is moving to Latvia (his wife's family live there) and was wondering what to do with his Falco (Da Beast).
Now there's a cracking bike with a big bore Clarkie conversion and goodness knows what else on it.
Mind you, I don't know whether his plans have changed as now is about this time that he suggested he would be moving.
LINK
It may be worth contacting him to see what his plans are. Tell him you've never really liked TwinNut and he'll probably do you a cracking deal

(sorry TN). I think he's still holidaying in Europe at the moment ...
EX's Holiday
..... so you may have to wait a little while.
I also know someone who emigrated to Oz - hooked up with him a few years back when I spent a week or so over there for work. He loved it out there and swore he'd never return ..... but he has - had a baby daughter and they decided they wanted to bring her up at "home" (goodness knows why).
Anyway, all the best Dale - we'll miss you over here but hope things work out well for you over there - and the forum reaches that far in any case!

Viking, thanks for the links, seems on first reading that taking two vehicles in a year is a no no, but haven't read it fully. I'll be looking for a leader to show me the good roads when I get there.
Thanks all for the good wishes, but I'm not going immediately. Got a V good offer letter yesterday, but it'll take a while to sell up an get my visa sorted, hoping to be out by crimbo.

You're welcome! It'll be good to see another Aprilia owner over here.
As for being a ride leader, I'm not that fast... However, the local Aprilia group are another kettle of fish.
Whereabouts in Oz will you be landing?
Oh, before I forget, when the Customs people ask you if you have a criminal record for Gawd's sake, don't answer with "I never knew you still needed one to enter Australia". They don't like it at all. Legend has it that they actually deported a tourist for saying it.
(And maybe we should move this thread before the Mods get annoyed at us!)

That's great news Dale. Hope it goes well and you are all very happy out there. Does this mean we now have a very important reason, and no excuses, to get together before the summer is gone.
