Ahhhh good old ebay

Just casually scanning through the aprilia parts ending soon and noticed a nosecone, bellypan and side fairings for an 04 RSV with no bids and no reserve starting at £20 with £15 delivery.

Won the auction and get an invoice for

Now I'd be the first to admit that getting a full (damaged) fairing for 35 is a bit cheeky but thats why theres a reserve option? BUT i didnt get an email saying 'sorry mate , made a mistake, cant sell it at that ' I just got an invoice with £35 added on

Cant decide whether to be an akward twat or just ignore it.

Tell him to stuff it. You win some, you lose some, such is the nature of Ebay. Unfortunately he lost out.

What are you gonna do with an RSV fairing? Gonna adapt it to yr track bike? Or is this just one of your random purchases?

I'd inform ebay. If there was no indication of this charge then he/she can't charge it.
It does ebay's reputation no good - so I hope they'd take some firm action.

If I buy things that are within travelling distance and I think the seller is trying to load the sale with unreasonable postage costs I usually call their bluff and go to collect it in person - pay them cash there and then for the price of the goods only.
Obviously this is not always possible but nobody has ever refused and said they have to post it.

Ask him politely where the extra £35 comes from and if he says 'Soz Mate; My mistake' n removes it, then fair enough.
If not then shop him to Ebay n refuse to pay; Theres always loads o RSV plastics going through there!...

I agree 100%, no mention of charges? then there shouldn't be any, it's his own stupid fault for not puttinga reserve on them. On the other hand seeing as you lot wanted to burn me only a few days ago, I'm with the seller!

Seriously (just for a mo) I had a recent e-bay purchase and went to pay and PayPal was adding VAT on it. Politely told the seller and he apologied and discounted the vat straight away

I have seen a few times on ebay a comment that VAT will be added if sold to a UK bidder (actually I think it should really be EU bidder as VAT has to be paid in a member state).
However, I guess if it's not a private sale and it is clearly stated, then that's fair enough .... but if it's not stated, then it's not acceptable.
Also, I would think that if it's on a Buy It Now, it may be illegal as prices have to be stated as VAT inclusive.
(but I'm no great expert on these things).

How do you know these plasics weren't to be part of an elaborate pyre that we are hoping to construct?
With a bit more razamataz and show and we'll sell more tickets and double the TV rights.
.... mind you, if these panels don't come through we're going to negotiate with Gio for some damaged Falco bits and pieces ... maybe a more fitting end given your affinity with them

The problem with this is that it is now you who are breaking the contract.

If they charge you the post they quoted in the auction and you accept it by bidding then you can't really complain later that the postage is exorbitant

However - in this case the seller sounds like a turd and should be treated as such

Emailed a polite note saying the site keeps adding £35 onto my winning bid and wont let me remove it

Its still a bargain at £70 but I dont actually need it, I just wanted to see if the bellypan fits and maybe stick the top fairing on for that extra 3mph on the back straight

I've forgotten to put a reserve on some gsxr carbs I had worth about £100ish and they went for £19 including postage. I could have cried but sent them anyway as it was my fault. The winner sent a nice note afterwards saying how skint he was and this got his bike back on the road which made me feel better BUT NOT 80QUID BETTERKLSADFKSLADKLSDAKLSADKL

Interesting point - not saying I'm right but it's not how I look at it.
I bid on the goods and, certainly, what I bid is binding.
The seller quotes delivery - basically, what they will charge to send the thing to me. However, if I can fetch it myself, then I don't need them to send it to me and as long as I can agree collection with them, I don't see that I've broken a contract with them.
Guess I need to check ebay's small-print.

If they refused collection, I'd probably pay to get it sent - but if the charges were unreasonable, the feedback stars for delivery costs would get a very low rating.

Actually, how come yer paying by paypal?? (I think youre paying that way?)

All you have to do is read the listing, get his address and send the cheque or postal order. You dont even have to complete the ebay trail, can just mark it as payment sent.

But you still have to go through the online 'paying' process to get his address to send moneys to.
I'd rather pay with paypal cos when he doesnt send it you can charge-back , but with a cheque its gone

So all i can assume is he's seen the total as £35 and added it in the box by mistake. Either that or he just hoped I'd pay and by golly if it was paypal and i was trollyed I would have
