Not surprised either, but i'm sure someone from the camera safety partnerships and BRAKE will be along in a minute to tell us this is why we need more cameras and more should be hidden ones.

The Government really doesn't earn too much from speeding fines, given their total budgets of many billions a year. Particularly so when you consider how popular they could make themselves if they got rid of them.

It's more relevant that they're a self-funding device for employing thousands of muppets who could never 'get a proper job'. Hearing some of these 'safety partnerships' spokesmen pontificate makes me realise it's creating jobs for the unemployable.

I have mates who work for Durham Constabulary and Northumbria Police. Durham is the only force in the country that has NO cameras, believing that education is the key and as such employ their traffic cops to talk to rather than book people (within reason). Funny that they now have to find over 100 voluntary redundancies as they have no money left this year yet Northumbria in the next force with speed cameras has just gone on a massive recruitment drive (one of whom may be my partner if she gets in!) and have bought a load of new Volvos etc.

Still, is fun to wind my mates up and ask them if they think they could catch me in their volvo's! :smt002
