I have finally given up the fags !
I did have an incentive, that cough that would not go away..., constant chest infections..., turned out to be Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD ).
My lovely mate Jo, a care nurse then gave me the lowdown on COPD, she said ' COPD is a complete fucker. You must give up the fags or you will be fucked in a few years, you will not be able to stand up without being out of breath, you will be walking around with a fucking oxygen bottle on your back. Give the fags up NOW you twat.......
Nuff said, I did what I was told for once

Well done!
Just remember, you've already done the hardest part (actually stopping) so every other challenge is just there to try and wind you up
8 years for me so far, reckon I'm in with a chance...

Thanks all !
I've been on a reduction from about 30 or more a day so I've been vaping.
Still a bit weird, keep having these mental images ofme rolling a fag because its been the norm for too many years.
I find I can get going a lot quicker in the mornings now with only oxygen and caffiene

Thanks forthe support,at the mo vaping is only slighty cheaper than smoking, I am conditioning my self to be rid of smoking, I run 3 different devivices with different nicotine strengths, simulating every shit situation I experience in a shit day at work.
Is it worth it ?
Too bloody right ! As Guy Martin wouold say ' I feel mega , I am the man '

Well done! I was told to stop after I had a heart attack and I've tried very hard but it's difficult with a husband who smokes (in spite of him having COPD!). Still, I guess that with early COPD, and prostate cancer controlled by hormone therapy, and being 79, he reckons that something will get him sooner or later, and it's his life so I've stopped nagging.
Still, I'm down to 4 a day, I've repeatedly tried to give up completely but every time I backslide and end up smoking more, so I've decided to stick with the four.

Hi BG,
At the age of 79 I must admit I would think ' What's the point ?'
At just 4 tabs a day that must take a bit of the puff and wheeze away so that is no bad thing..
I actually really do like smoking but it becacame obvious it was screwing me up so as a teenage 56 year old with a fair bit of mayhem left in me , the fags had to go.
Just hope the chest x ray shows no nasties.....

Well done!
My middle son and my brother have both moved over to those personal fog machines. Can't say that I'm over keen on the smell of some of the concoctions they use but am very glad they are not smoking. Certainly notice my son not coughing the way he used to.
My Grandad was a heavy smoker and saw a TV programme about it's dangers (must have been in the 60s or 70s) and then never touched another. Must have been a real effort before the days of patches and vapes.
Anyway, glad you've taken the positive step to avoid the nasties that would have lain ahead.

Thanks D-R !
Nice to hear from you again.
waiting for the results from a chest x ray, I may not have got away unscathed. Hopefully it is a lingering chest infection.
The stats on smoking are grim, 1 in 2 smokers will die of a smokinng related disease

Nice one, Paul. Haven't been on for a while, so only just saw this. I'm an ex-smoker, so I have some idea how you feel, but I was a bit of a lightweight social smoker, so giving up for me wasn't too difficult. I've also got loads of friends who still smoke, and to me it's something that any smoker has to do on their own. Nagging for the most part just doesn't work. So well done you, and now you're off the cancer sticks, please stay that way.
I must admit I'm a bit ambivalent about vaping. I'm sure it's less harmful than smoking, but it's still a comparatively new thing so any health drawbacks probably haven't surfaced yet. If you can get off both, that would be the best outcome.

Thanks Graham,
Yes vaping has yet to be fully investigated, the only available research shows it to be about 95% less toxic than inhaling tobbaco smoke.
My Nurse Practitioner advocates vaping for that very reason.
In almost a month I really notice the difference in my lung capacity, my spirology test showed my lung capacity to be only25% of what it should be.....
I've never been that good with figures but the two stats above should scare the shit out of anyone
