Not ridden the bike or been on here much lately, been dealing with my four legged best mate that now has Alzhiemers.
it must be so distressing seeing it occur in humans, its bad enough seeing my much loved English/Staffie bull terrier cross loosing the plot big time, tring to jump through a closed window even though the door is open and he can get out, terrified because he cant work out what the hell is going on, he freaks and then freaks out more because he's freaked.
Still strong enough to knock even a big bastard rugby player off his ( or her )feet.
Really hoping a change of medication gives a few more good days and less bad days, the final good bye is always painful but a bit more so when the decision is forced

That's so sad! I do sympathise, we lost a much loved cat last year due to something similar, in the end it went undiagnosed but our vet thought 'some kind of brain lesion'. I had always said I thought he was autistic as some of his behaviours were very strange, but it didn't stop us loving him even though he would sometimes turn on us for no reason.

It's sometimes very difficult to know what to do for the best for your doggy friends - we lost two in close succession from our pack of four earlier this year and it is really painful...

Another visit to the vet today...
The most realistic view is that we have reached the end of the road, other medication may or may not work. This is a gamble I'm not going to take.
I will have the little Fatboy switched off early next week as soon as I can arrange a day off work.
He will spend the final days being pampered and shit faced on Valium, he's had a bloody good life

A hard choice, but ultimately the best for your friend...

When our chap got bone cancer my Mrs. was determined to explore every avenue possible to 'cure' him, but even now I don't think the extra 6 months that he got was a real benefit to him - he was 15 years old and like yours had had a wonderful life.

I found some wise words whilst struggling with my dilemma:

Better a week too early than a day too late.

You sound like you've been a great human for your dog.

Always sad when you have to put a beloved pet down, but its better than letting them suffer. Enjoy the last few days, he'll be happy in dogs heaven.

The deed was done on Tuesday, now that really awful adjustment period where you get your head around your best mate is gone.
I always used to save him a titbit of my lunch and love seeing his tail wag double time as I opened my rucksack.
Heartbreaking but so glad of the best times,

You sounded like you gave him the best of his life, and looked after him properly and considerately from his beginning with you, and to his end with you..

You'll never forget him.
