MP wants to scrap Welsh circuit idea

#1 Post by T.C. » Fri Mar 03, 2017 11:18 am

Welsh MP wants the new proposed circuit of Wales circuit scrapped.

I would have thought that once built and up and running it would be a good source of bringing money and investment into the area.

One legitimate concern is that a few people are likely to make a lot of money from the project regardless of whether it is profitable for Wales in the long term. The Spanish construction company will net £180M regardless of its success. There would probably be less objections if they contracted it to a British company as that would be a bit more Win-Win. (though with our track record for building roads it could make for an interesting MotoGP as Rossi and the boys dodge around the traffic cones and pot holes and have to brake hard from 200MPH due to an overhead sign reading '40 - workforce in road').

The fact that the contractors are allegedly taking MPs out to lunch and making legal threats is par for the course in big business but you're not supposed to let people find out about it...

Much as I like the idea of a new race track, I'm not sure its money well spent and taking into consideration the guestimate of £50mill a year, there would never be a return on the money spent. When you take into consideration, repairs and upgrades, public liability insurance, workers salaries, the improvements to other roads leading to it and also the costs of policing it all its a white elephant, or should that be sheep.

Yes if it was a straight choice between the two I'd go for the circuit, but much as it hurts I have to agree with Peter on this one.

Although for many things, I'm an advocate of moving them to the regions to spread things around the country, I think for what is supposed to be used as the premier circuit, it's in completely the wrong place. It needs to be as centrally located as is practical (together with great transport links) to give the greatest accessibility to the whole of the country.

Wasn't Rockingham built as a regeneration project for the remnants of Corby after steel died?
