I had to spend a day in Brum yesterday listening to a whole load of corporate bullshit but did hear one interesting thing from our Head of Fleet Transport..
During the recent purge on this stupid activity, 3 people that were stopped for using mobiles whilst driving in a car were found to be holders of CPC certificates (a qualification required for HGV driving ).
This was reported to the local Traffic Commisioner who then revoked their HGV entitlement for 12 months on the grounds that ' If you cannot drive your car within the required legal standard then you cannot be trusted to drive an HGV to the same standard'.
If you need any more convincing then you should probably shoot yourself.

Early part of the week I spent the whole day doing a series of radio interviews to various radio stations around the country on the very subject of mobile phone use and distractions.
This is the longest interview I did with BFBS and an audience I am told of around 500,000 and was the pre recorded one. The other 12 + were done live but were of a similar flavour

I have a particular gripe against so called professional drivers using hand held mobiles, so any penalty they get will be applauded by me, the more severe the better and I would like to see an instant disqual for first time offenders regardless of status, the message would soon spread.

It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next

Good interview TC.
Re educating people is the battle.
As a Union rep I purvey stuff like this to members and non members alike, I'm surprised at the amount of denial I hear...
'I dont use my mobile when I'm driving the lorry'.
My response ' That is bollocks, how many times do I see you guys pick up a ringing mobile and answer ' I'm driving love, will ring you when we get back to the depot'.
Those few seconds are too many seconds
