Poking around in your ears with a cotton bud.
For years I thought the warning 'Do not insert cotton bud into ear canal' was aimed at fools....
Now I know that fool is me, for two weeks I have been hearing white noise in my left ear, been almost deaf in that ear for a little over a week leaving the right ear overloaded.
I was convinced I had an infection from ear plugs, the throbbing became almost unbearable so I went to my GP's practice, the nurse looked in the offending cranium fin, gave me a sad smile and said 'You use cotton buds, dont you'

I'm a bugger for this. I do it for please...cleaning is a secondary benefit.

So,what had you actually done?

I used to do this.

But the nurse told me you should never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear

That said I am advised to wear hearing protection whilst riding?

Can't get my wrap around ear defenders on when wearing a crash helmet!!!

I have filled my inner ear canal with wax, which is painful, irritating and prevents me from riding my fucking bike.
Everytime you do this you dry the outer ear of wax (which acts as a dust/dirt trap), the ear then produces more wax to compensate and the ears owner then gets busy with the cotton buds again...
Got away with it for years....

Use warm olive oil overnight it removes a lot of crap.

Thanks, I found that out,the uncomfortable way.
Over the counter remedy did nothing to ease the problem, good old Olive !
I can hear in stereo again

When I got swimmers ear a few years back, I used olive oil, it got trapped, and then infected.

When the infection cleared up, I used otex ear drops, which basically dissolved the wax.

The sensation of it bubbling away inside the ear was actually quite nice.

The reverse seems to work for me, olive oil being the one.
Been able to hear all week and taking a perverse pleasure in the amount of crap coming out of my left ear,like bits of crumbled Oxo cube.
