My Godfather was Polish, he came here in 1940 and served in the Royal Navy for the duration.

One interesting fact is he was transferred from HMS Hood 2 weeks before it went out after the Bismarck (there were only 3 survivors)

But He could speak English well enough though?

I constantly find myself sighing at the things we are led into doing nowadays. It's killing the Nation off and forming a pick n mix selection of people on an Island instead with a huge selection of languages that are used.

It's the UK, Either speak the local language or do one.

The Army has a scheme whereby the entrant has to be competent of speaking and writing to the level of a five year old. (Mainly to allow Gurkha and Commonwealth Soldiers in)
Why does the Country not do the same. :smt009 :smt017
