It's been emotional!

Have just had a great two weeks in lanzarote, the weathers been fantastic and have spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach.
Unfortunately the journey home today didn't match the rest of the trip.
After having a good night playing cards with the in-laws until the early hours I was hoping for a trouble free return.
Our airport transfer was due to pick us up at 04:45 and as requested by them we were waiting outside our apartments 15mins prior to this. 05:15 still no show unable to get through on their emergency number on mobile or pay phone! Had to run 1/2 mile to known taxi rank but none there so found first open hotel reception and booked taxi through them, €25 small price to pay for not missing our flight.
Boarded flight on time ( Dan dare airlines to Leeds/Bradford ) to be told there was a 40 min delay due to a French air traffic controllers strike ,still not too bad. Had a decent flight but 10 mins from landing at Leeds Claire told me she was having a hypo, she's type 1 diabetic and I suspect shed overdone it with her insulin, within seconds she deteriorated badly and was sweating profusely and having a seizure , the air stewards couldn't help as they had to remain seated for the landing, the other passengers were brilliant and shouted down the plane to try and source some orange juice to try and bring her round but I suspect it was already a bit late .
During this time we were trying to land in 40mph winds and Leeds airport is renowned for being out in the open, the plane was being buffeted about quite a lot and after kissing Claire goodbye my thoughts turned to bending forward and kissing my own hairy butt goodnight! :smt039
Anyway after almost touching down the pilot thought better of it and aborted the landing which was really quite scary. We were then told we were diverting to Liverpool where the runway wasn't quite so exposed.
Thankfully paramedics had been alerted and were waiting for us on touchdown in Liverpool but this delayed everyone's departure from the plane even more until Claire had come around and was stable.
I've got to say all involved were fantastic along with the other passengers.
We then had a 90 minute coach ride back to Leeds and have just arrived home after another 90 min drive. Needless to say I'm a rather tired boy but happy to be home :smt015
And as Vinny Jones would say ITS BEEN EMOTIONAL!

Crikey - that's the sort of plot line you get at the end of an action film - not something you expect in real life when you wake up in the morning .... even when it's the very early morning.
I've been in an aborted landing due to short runway / big cross winds and that was bad enough ... but never with all that other stuff going on. Given Claire's situation it must have been very frightening.
Glad to hear that it all ended well and despite the tendency for action film sequels, I just hope it never happens to you again!

Oh and I forgot to mention the basket of highly venomous snakes that had smashed in the hold ,releasing said snakes into the cabin. :smt003

Good to hear SWMBO is ok, dude. I know lots of people with Type1, and either end of the scale isn't a pleasant thing to witness. Well done for keeping cool.. If indeed you did. :smt002
