So. This new tax system is supposed to make things easier all round. Which, to be fair, it is. However, watch out for hidden charges that you won't get back if you're only taxing a vehicle for a short space of time. If you tax a vehicle for six months, they add on a surcharge for the privilege and have done for years. This isn't refundable if you decide to then SORN the vehicle, which I was unaware of. I taxed a bike for six months and handed the 'disk' in after three weeks. Only needed it short term. They've sent me a rebate in the post for £33.33. They've kept the £4 'surcharge' and also the fee for using a credit card. In the future when I come to get VED for a short space of time, I shall be buying 12 months on a debit card and getting a full months use out of it.

As for buying and selling in the middle of the month.. Well, I'll be trying to keep that to a minimum. Robbing, scamming, stealth tax BASTARDS! :smt013

I find not having any tax often works ... Allegedly ... Must be due to having a foreign wife ...

There's no tax on wives regardless of where they are registered.

I've opted to pay the car tax by direct debit, if I time it right with any cancellation then they hopefully can't rip me off
