there is a national campaign running for the next couple of weeks, targetting number plates and exhausts

30 quid fine helped me to understand it.. but that was the better option than the 3 points and 60 quid for the speed i was doing... seriously, I was given the choice

so, time to remove the show plates.....

So what the F~@< happened to the very recently reported "realistic attitude" that was to be introduced to these very things (and dark visors) by the police?

... mind you, the report was in MCN .....

Couple that with the report in this week's MCN (I know, pinch of salt and all that) that if your bike gets stolen and recovered, they will not investigate it unless you pay for transportation to the forensic test place and then pay daily storage. It really does make you wonder what the police force is all about these days:

Stopping Crime?
- Resources diverted to minor technical infringements such as plates and exhausts.
- Won't do the basic work to investigate theft of vehicles that may lead to criminals being caught and fewer vehicles being stolen (yours and mine?) unless the victim pays up!

Raising Cash?
- Special effort into increasing revenue from fines for minor technical infringements.
- Refusing to investigate real crimes unless the victim pays them for the privelige!
.... just a couple of (further points on that while I'm mid-rant):
1) If you were to pay an individual copper to get the work done to investigate a crime, that would be Bribery .... or if he insisted in it being paid, it would be Extortion ... so why is it OK for the police force to do this.
2) Extending this principle of the victim pays for forensic investigation to be started, let's hope this never gets extended to rape victims for example.

Do you mind, it's not the police force any more, it's the police service!

ie, the service is, they record your crime and give you a crime number - what more do you want?

It wont - to be entirely cynical, the feminist lobby is way more powerful than the bike lobby.

The police take the view that crimes against the person are far more important than crimes against property. Indeed, the insurance industry is up in arms because dibble refuses to investigate rampant fraudulent claims including repeated staged accidents. Running apparently at several million a month at the moment.

Yeah, Gatsos et al have a hard time doing the whole investigate thang...
