Yep
I see he saved the bbc shit loads of cash on a razor ;)
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I have not shaved for 20 years +

Legacy of my bad crash. If I shave I take half my face off with the razor.
Anyway, programme is a repeat. It was first shown in April, and the BBC told me last week that it was being repeated this week.
Still have not seen it and no desire to see it.

When where ?!
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

To be honest I was disappointed by the amount of coverage they have the issue. I appreciate they have other stuff to fit in but it's almost like a token gesture.

You were dissapointed? How do you think I felt? 7 hours it took of filming and interviews only for 99% of it to end up on the cutting room floor, and the most annoying part was that the leathers were not fake, they were cheap, but many times better than wearing jeans or shorts and T shirt.
But they did not want to hear that, as far as they were concerned, they were fake beause they carried the words "Yamaha" on them and they could not get it out of their heads that these were not fake branded leathers, they were simply cheap leathers with the words Yamaha stictched on which os legal.
They wanted something to sensationalise, and I would not give them the ammunition.

I had this on in the background as I stuffed my face with M&S finest hand cooked crisps. Tea of kings.
Anyway. I thought the ropey leathers looked particularly shit and surely anybody with a crumb of biking knowledge would be able to spot the many poor qualities as did the racers at Brands. Even from a distance and through the television I could tell they were wronguns, despite it being repeatedly shouted at me by Matt Alldarkandgloomy. The Yamaha writing looked like it was the wrong font and the R1 motif was a mile off.

Then you have missed the whole point what I have just said.
They were not wronguns as you put it, they were CHEAP!!! They were made to a price.
They are the sort of quality we were buying 10 years or so ago and were considered good. The actual leather itself was not that bad, it was the construction that let it down, but!!! and this is the point I made that they did not include, for someone on a budget, they would still offer substantially more protection than jeans, shorts and T shirt or some of the other crap I see people ride around in.

Like I said I only had it on in the background so may have missed something. However I thought the point was that they were counterfeit. The consumer being misled into buying something they thought would give the same protection as a genuine item.
Sure it's still better to wear cheapo protective clothing than nothing but there are plenty of budget brands that meet the quality and safety standards these items failed.
Edit:
When I first posted in this thread this post hadn't been posted.

I thought they were counterfeit as that's what they said on the programme.

Unfortunately that's all the BBC are interested in. Sensationalism makes 'good' TV.
Sorry I won't get to see the programme itself as it was precisely this sort of cr*p that put me off watching anything and the TV is gathering dust...

Sensationalist?
Yes but....
Hmmm
The leathers were being sold as genuine items.... They were not genuine so, yep they were fake
Though badly edited, the difference between real and fake was demonstrated - though the fake leathers did do better than I expected
(They were better than what joe public was wearing 15 years ago IMHO)
Forget us, as we know what we are buying, but think of doting parents.... Just maybe the program will have acted as a spur for them to research a bit before buying...

They were not being sold as genuine items. They were considered fake simply because they had the name Yamaha on them, and the seller made no claim that they were genuine.
They were purchased off the internet, and I tried to explain that PPE should never be purchased online for a whole number of reasons, and as I went through the various standards, sizing, fit and what PPE was supposed to do, the researcher and producers eyes lit up as they had absolutely no idea, and made it clear that they had been educated, and then promptly left it all on the cutting room floor

I did not see the prog, Im sorely dissappointed by what I read. PPE is your field of expertise TC, you proffered advice and information gleaned from your years of accident investigation of motor cycle crashes but some twat of a producer deemed that an experts opinion on safe riding is less interesting than a dodgy plumber pissing in your sink.

I would NEVER agree to be in a TV programme again. Many years ago I used to sing with a Ladies Barbershop Chorus, we were affiliated to a national organisation and ask their permission to appear in a programme (about different ways people spend their leisure time) as they didn't want anyone bringing the whole organisation into disrepute, We were considered professional enough to represent them, the folks came and filmed one of our practice nights when we were working up to a national competition.
When the programme aired, they had made us look like complete idiots.
Once they've got you they can do anything they like!
