I was in very slow moving traffic in the lorry this morning, several bikes and cycles pass us on the right, riding over the cross hatch markings.
Another bike passes us, not too fast maybe 20mph, Im looking and thinking 'Is he going to pull in, surely he can see that island and fucking great big concrete lampost ?'
Bang, srraight into it, narrowly missing the rear wheels of an arctic.
car in front of us stopped but rider waved them on so assumed not hurt but pride injured.
Specsavers ?

Target fixation I expect, it gets all of us sooner or later.
Well not all, but I've been there but I was lucky.

very nearly ran into the back of another car on the motorway a few days ago - so busy trying to work out what a guy on my rear quarter was doing and whether I could pull out, that I didnt notice the car in front slowing down a bit as he came up behind another vehicle.
Sad but I have no doubt my driving is getting worse as I age.

Yup, my brain doesn't process information as fast as it used to!
Mind you, having spent an afternoon at a 'Driver Awareness Course' - I was pleased to note that my knowledge of roadcraft exceeded that of many of the others - the ones that actually said anything.
Apart from the other biker present of course.

there's no doubt that riding a bike makes you more aware of road hazards etc - maybe its the fear element but whilst I sometimes "drift" a bit in the car, I never do on the bike.

Riding or driving, a split second lack of concentation can lead to mis haps, like watching someone buggering about on your rear Lazarus ! I've no doubt that I would have done the same, concentrating on the potential mayhem behind,
I still dont see how the biker failed to spot the traffic island and lampost perfectly silhoutteded in the early morning sun

It was always a problem when coming up behind a mod with one on his parka
