How do you fail to notice a Police bike behind you....

#1 Post by fatboy » Sun Mar 16, 2014 6:54 pm

With its blue lights on ???
Thats exactly what my mate did when he was having a 'play' on the Chippenham ring road on his CB 1000R. He was on his 4th lap of the ringroad when the BMW was able to catch up.
The cop was fairer than fair in saying 'There are two ways to deal with this, penalty points and a fine or Magistrates Court where I will be obliged to state that I was unable to catch you at 140mph. If only you had looked in your mirrors you would have seen me following you for 2 laps of the ring road.If you had been paying attention you would have seen me at the side of the road and slowed down.
Another chance he does not deserve, he really needs to get banned and have a rethink.
Yes I have mentioned him on here before :smt018

Doh.

This is why 'when you have a play' its best to do it at night. Less traffic and less cops.

Or at least keep your eyes open!

It is more common than you think. The number of times I have sat not only behind a bike, but car drivers as well with Blues and sirens going, and they were totally oblivious to my presence.
It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next

Saw it happen today on the M25, saw a car with blues and headlights going in my mirror that was fast approaching a van about 50 yards behind me. Van just sat there for a good few minutes completely oblivious.

Eventually he pulled over but I don't know if it was because of the car or just because he got to a gap.

If people driving aren't observant enough to notice falshing headlights and blues, what chance do we have on a bike?

I pass the main hospital daily on my commute. I see it all the time with ambulances - people blocking their way - totally oblivious

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

My ex wife used to moan at me, in general :smt003 but also for checking my mirrors and pparently not concentrating what was going on in front of me. Don't think she grasped the concept that life doesn't just happen in front of you, it goes on all around you. Very rarely did she drive when I was in the car.

That was the first thing my dad told me when I started driving at 17 - it's probably why I'm still here!

significantly less, yes.

Perfect time for a good ride in daylight is when England are playing international football (why bother - never going to win anything!).

If you think the other guy has seen you then you're as pissed as he is.

Had a plod say to me once that it really irritated him that ambulances and fire engines could often get to shouts as quickly as he could because drivers moved aside for them but stuck to the limit in the middle of the road when he came up behind in his car. Probably exaggerated but I certainly dont pull into the side for plod the way I do for an ambulance
