Almost home after a long day at work, running down a long straight A road, saw an Audi waiting to turn right across my path into one of those bloody hand car wash places.
I have an HID headlight and was wearing my Network Rail Hi Vis waterproofs.
as soon as I saw his indicator I dumped the throttle, he sat there 2 seconds then turned across my path, in no hurry at all, shutting the fucking door on me.
grabbed a massive handfull of front brake leading to a tank slapper, the fucking idiot did not even have enough room to pull into the carwash and leave the road clear, his arse end blocking most of my lane.
I know its by no means a rare occurrence but i feel the need to rant

Ah - him in Audi, you on bike ..... even if he saw you he would assume the right of way was his

What is it about drivers of the sportier versions of German cars that makes them arrogant and dangerous ?
perhaps I should buy a WW2 halftrack with flamethrower

audi drivers are the sons of those that drove volvos in the 80's....

Or larger VW's, Beemers and Mercs.. Something about those cars brings out the true arsehole in most that drive them. I do know people who drive such vehicles sensibly, yet always seem to be given a wider berth than you'd expect..

Not sure its anything to do with the make of car. To my mind the biggest group of problem drivers are young women. Somehow women have morphed from being the most considerate drivers willing to let people out of side roads etc into the most aggressive and above all least aware drivers out there.

And it doesnt help that the company 3 door hatch a lot of them have is capable of over 100 mph so now they are equipped to carve you up too.

Risk Compensation Factor may be a large part, eg 'Im in a big car with a good safety rating,so I dont need to worry too much'

If the weather was better I would have been hoofing along, mile and a half straight with only 3 side turnings, perfect,assuming you are not deaf, dumb,blind and in charge of a car, turning across my path

Pulling along side and leaning an elbow on the drivers window while doing a full paddington stare is sufficient

I'dve stopped and had a chat, most definately. probably involving turning their ignition off and snapping the key in the barrel.

.. an old trick from N.I. training for ambush / carjacking situations but always useful elsewhere...

Having spent 3 months commuting into London I have to wholly agree. They tend to be the "if i dont see it it wont hit me point and squirt mob".. they want to change lanes, know it's a dodgy move but rely on lowering their vision hunching their shoulders/wincing, pointing the car where they want to go and squirting the old throttle. Then after they've caused carnage open their eyes really widely and pout "but im only a ickle secretary.. you cant mean me mr nasty biker/car driver/truck driver/bus driver"
I hate them about on par with the taliban.

I'm glad you missed him, fatboy! I was moaning about young women's bad driving to my wife recently and was surprised that she agreed. I certainly get the impression that they're the least courteous; rarely giving way to other traffic and rarely acknowledging those who give way to them. However, all of the close calls I've had recently (in car and on bike) were thanks to male drivers in the 20-45 age range. One blatantly ran a red light and I've had 3 who felt that they could accelerate up a motorway on-slip and go straight to lane 2 right in front/beside me. Makes me wonder if it's better not to move over to lane 2 to allow them clear passage into lane 1. They seem to think that if lane 1 is clear for them, then lane 2 must be also!

Was heading home with a car full of children and as I approached woodton school and playground - just coming up to the corner and indicating to turn right, Richard Cramium overtook me....

The corner is a blind corner, with a hidden dip, by a large children's play area...

Now I don't mind putting my own life on the line - but children's is a different thing

I make no bones about it - I would have slapped the driver
