DOES NOT KILL FLIES.
I know this because the last fly of summer has taken refuge in my bloody kitchen, it is a nocturnal little high speed annoying indestructable bastard.
Carb cleaner, WD 40, oven cleaner, kitchen cleaner with bleach, Bob Martin's Home flea spray have failed to kill this bloody thing over the last 4 evenings.
Now have random clean and bleached bits of paintwork and rustproof surfaces, and a pet fly

You need the technique mate. Rarely fails.

Roll your middle finger under your thumb as if you're going to flick something (as you are..lol) and extend other fingers out to assume the 'devil horns' pose. Try to approach said fly from the front slowly, but not too slowly. Then when you're in range KAPAOW! Launch that son-o-bitch.

Works most of the time.. Just hope the fly doesn't move as he'll spot your cunning ways. The flys eyes concentrate on what's coming up at the sides and confuses it as to what to do next.. It's not expecting another to come and flick it's brain out through it's arse.

Anti bacterial cleaner is the best. They just fall out of the sky when it hits them. If you follow it's fall path you can finish them off.

I have no problem killing fly's

Any deodorant spray can and a lighter

I tried with freezer spray ..... fail ....

I do have a pretty good record of swiping the things though - and at this time of year it's easier as they are getting a bit dozy

My mates and I used to catch flies at school when we were bored. My recollection is that they take off backwards so the trick was to take them from behind so to speak. I must try Will's technique. Sounds like the Crocodile Dundee method of subduing water buffalo!

Grab a tea towel, or other similar cloth and using it like a whip, never fails, even if you don't hit them but get close the speed at the tip of said cloth knocks them out of the air.

I recently split a gigantic mother hubbard of a wasp in two using this method

This thing is no longer than a grain of rice, survived several half second blasts of chemical assult,amazing considering its lung size.

Impossible to ignore, these are mega speed ninja's, nose,ankle, neck,elbow, eyebrow in a second, if I could ignore them I would.
The warm autumn means more of the buggers, the summer surplus of spiders has diminished just when I need them

I always keep a supply of spiders in my fairing for just such an emergency.

As my trike has no fairing I keep mine in my car's door mirrors.
