Sally lost her licence a long time ago, I don't mean she was banned but it was misplaced.
I did say that it was not an issue as we had no plans to move and with it being the old style paper licence it would not cost money every ten years to replace.


But when insuring the Renault I purchased, one of the stipulations was that all insured had to send a copy of their licence in to the insurer.
Although Sally never changed it from her maiden name to her marital one I said we had better ring up and check to make sure there is no fine to be issued as I knew that the rules had changed and thought it would be an easy way for the government to collect an easy fine.
DVLA said it was ok and send the licence off with the marriage certificate which she did.


The DVLA sent the forms back complete with cheque stating that they needed more proof of who she was.
An up to date pay slip would be good enough.
She told me what was happening and I thought ok that's fine....
The insurance broker who has been very patient sent me a letter through asking for a copy of sallys licence again.
I rang them and explained what had happened and they said ok we will put it on record.


Sally sent the new information off with the marriage certificate and an up to date pay slip.
DVLA sent it back stating that the pay slip was not enough information.
This is what they asked for in the first place.
The DVLA asked that a letter on letter headed paper by the company that she works for and signed by the manager to say she works there with the up to date pay slip.
Sally sent it off again.
DVLA sent the application back stating that the information they had received was not good enough and that additional information like a birth certificate would be required....
WTF????????


So now.
Sally has put in the application.
1) Her marital licence
2) A pay slip
3) A company headed letter by her employer
4) A birth certificate.


May I point out this has gone on six months and I received another letter from my insurer asking about the photo copy.
I did ring them yesterday explaining what has happened to which they replied "This has happened before to another customer"
They have said they will wait until the licence drops through my letter box, which hopefully will be some time now. But did say that if there was anymore problems sally will have to ring the DVLA on a "premium" number and ask the name of the individual who sally is talking to. Sally will have to give permission for my insurer to ring up to check that sally has a licence to drive a car.
I hope the licence will arrive shortly .

I have had problems with the dvla in the past, and the one thing that I found solved my issue was ( dont laugh) to write to my mp. He in turn wrote to the minister and the dvla reacted instantly.

Try it giving all the details above. Nothing to lose.

I had my license revoked after passing an HGV medical,they decided I was unfit to drive.
I had 6 months in which to appeal, which I tried to do but heard nothing for about 3 months,then I contacted my MP.
I had a response in a week !
They still screwed me over by not sending documents ect untill my appeal time expired.

Head down to your nearest DVLA office before they all close in December. I recently had trouble trying to obtain a log book for one of my bikes. Swansea and bloody hopeless. After ranting at some taffy down the phone, I managed to get an appointment to see someone at the Northampton office. He was a very nice chap and understood what I was asking and also why I had gotten frustrated with the moron in Swansea. He said he'd pull a few strings to get it sorted, and did just that.

Well after six months of messing about the licence dropped through the post last night.

About bloody time. Ask for the same level of information next time your road tax is due and see what sort of response you get :)
