Once again this is basic stuff which every driver should know but does not seem to be taught or even enforced.
The 'pass' standard for a car test in the UK is shockingly lax

Thing is with 3 sons who have taken their tests within the past few years, I know this really Isn't the case - the tests have been pretty tough.

It seems that a large percentage of the driving public have just forgotten or choose to ignore what they were taught and needed to know to get through the tests.

With the emphasis on policing by speed cameras, that seems to be all that many seem to think matters given the standards you see on the streets.

Well they have the camera's that would enable them to track anyone's sloppy driving habits and it'd be cheaper to prosecute as there is video evidence. Must admit I don't like that but if it improved driving standards, so be it.

People treat driving as a right when it should be seen as a privilege.

I'm all for 2 yearly assessments with automatic retraining and retests for poor performance. I'm also for tougher penalties for driving offences too. Use your mobile while driving and get a three month ban. Get caught over the limit and watch as your car gets crushed. Caught doing 3-5 miles per hour over the speed limit in perfect safety? Caution. Bit harsh? I don't think so but we could always leave it as is and put up with what we've got and worse then.
