Don't get me wrong, I really like the falco but I want more wind protection and range... its my first vtwin and what a stonking engine... as to why I think the Futura is a better bike for me.
Any opinions?

Mart's got a Futura and it hasn't helped his wind.

For range... mcn state 135 for the falco and 160 for the futura. How true this is could be another story.
I'm thinking about getting a sports touring and I really like the vtwin, its addictive to crack the throttle and hear it burble...which turns into a loud roar.... and then the excitement begins. Anyway.... wonder if I'd be able to grt a straight swap... saves hassle.

depends how much you want for yours I wouldn't have thought that would appeal to a dealer but you may get lucky with someone privately

Rode Curt's Futura recently and can confirm it is an excellent all rounder. Not as fast or as sharp handling as my Falco but on real roads riding with respect for what might be around the next corner it would not be left behind. The Futura riding position is more natural too.

Personally I'm not a fan of it's styling which to me seems of "the time" rather than classic.

I've never thought about the value of the Falco. 15500 miles 53 plate all the usual mods exc rear shock and swing arm.
I imagine I'd either have to sell mine private and use the money or swap someone. Doubt a dealer would be much interested. If it all seems likr hassle then I'll just raise the clipons and see if I can find a taller screen or db. Dont know if its all worth the hassle.

Well at least you are talking about swapping from one bike that the market does not appreciate the value of for another - therefore shouldn't be so much of an issue.

Check on the hard to get parts for a Fut (Speak with Curt and Mart) and stock up as a matter of course when you buy one.. if you buy one..

Cant remember what.. rear wheel bearings springs to mind, probably other parts too.

Just purchased a 2004 futura and tbh I like the bike a lot.
I find the riding position very comfortable.
The back wheel bearing will probably need stripping and re greasing. The bearings on the dog bone will probably need a service, all this I intend to do before the start of next season.
Futuara's are no different from any other bike. They just need some tlc to make everything run smoothly.

Ye I doubt I'll go down the route of selling mine to then find a fut. If I can't get a swap then I won't bother at all. Only thing that worries me is the lack of parts as you all mention. Even less parts than a falco which is already a mission at times.

Usually 180-ish for me; have had over 200 when ridden steadily.

Ah - much better than a Falco!

Is that due to a bigger tank, lower state of tune and therefore better economy, or both?

(Or also none of the above, I suppose...)

Probably due to Mart's personal aerodynamic efficiency
