Not a very festive post ......... sorry.

Cal didn't get home until 11.30pm last night courtesy of an HGV/motorcycle smash on the M4/A470. Needless to say the motorcyclist came off worst. I just want to put my thoughts out there with his family. It's a crap thing regardless of the time of year but it always feels worse at Yule when you are looking forward to the New Year and a better year.

Thats a horrid thing to occur. My thoughts with the family too.

Worst accident in terms of time of year was a double fatal early one Christmas morning.

Father and daughter were driving home about 6 one morning having been out to help the Grandmother with a problem that had occured during the previous evening. The car skidded, hit a telegraph pole and came to a very abrupt halt.

When I got there, father and daughter appeared to be OK, didn't complain of any injuries, were walking OK and said they felt OK. None the less I called out the Ambulance service just to be safe.

I got some details from the pair of them, and whilst waiting for the Ambulance I suggested they sit down, wrap themselves up (this was in the days before space blankets and the like) whilst i went and sorted outthe recovery of their vehicle.

I returned 5 maybe 10 minutes later max, both of them were dead!

Shock! That was what killed them.

First time I had ever seen shock act in that way especially to two relatively fit people one of whom was quite young.

The really bad part was having to go to the home address and tell Mum who by now was preparing Xmas dinner that her Husband and daughter would not be coming home, Ever!

Taught me a very valuable if distressing lesson that day, and I can appreciate why medical people now place so much emphasis on looking after those who have gone into shock.
