Work this one out !

#1 Post by fatboy » Fri Apr 12, 2013 6:53 pm

3 flatmates go shopping for a new telly, they find one on offer for £30.
They buy it,its a bargain and works out at £10 each.
The shop manager sees the telly has been sold, finds the salesman and says 'That telly was further reduced to £25, find the customer and give them £5 back '
The salesman grabs a fiver from the till, chases after the customers, thinking, 'How can they share a fiver between 3 ? I will give them a quid back each and keep the other 2. That means it only cost them £9 each.

So, if 3 of them spent £9 each, thats £27, so what happened to the other quid ????

What missing quid?

There is £30 in the till. You take £5.
You take £2 of the £5 , and give them each £1 (£3).

There is £25 in the till, £2 in your hands and £3 in their hands.

Together they have spent £27 pounds. £2 is in your hands, £25 is in the till, and they each walk away with £1.

Or, look at it the other way.

£25 in the till. Give them each back £1 which totals £28 pounds. You have the other £2 = £30.

Bet you would not want to try that finger trick around here....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Just like to point out that a lot of serious mathematical theory has been worked out in Cambridge.... Probably helps if you are not restricted to a decimal system...

In that part of the world, isn't "web surfing" their annual walking on water competition?
