Is it me or do those cars look as though they should be faster?
He will insist on trying to race me on my way to work each and every morning... The chicken-shit bottles it whenever we top 130...

I drive a Subaru WRX STi quite regularly, (my neighbours although I keep thinking of buying one) and I reckon driven properly down a country road, it'd probably take on if not beat most bikes. It wouldn't in a straight line of course.
4 wheel drive, 340bhp, 0-60 in 4.4s and probably 165mph top end. They are quite simply awesome to drive and in many respects nearly as much fun as a bike.

Still not a bike like but very very good fun!!

Would have to agree with you mate, the longest time over the last forty odd years riding bikes that I didn't have a bike was when I was rallying cars, mainly rear wheel drive Fords in my case. My old Escort Twin Cam had nothing like the power of the Scooby, but the fun started when you seriously lost grip, (with a bike, this is usually when the hospital visits start!). Things like using the handbrake for 90 degree turns and hairpins on tarmac, (and 180's on a road not much wider than the cars length, if you took a wrong slot), chucking it to the left to take a tight right hand bend on the loose etc,. gave me some of the best times of my life, (all on events of course!). On other bends you just chucked it in and steered it on the throttle, absolute magic!
The Scooby doesn't lose grip like the Escort did, it just grips like nothing should. I've driven em but can't afford to own a decent one and run bikes.
I ride all year round and might have a play with one on a good dry road in summer, on a winding wet/greasy or gravelly road in winter, I always treat em with serious respect, they're a great car and can outrun most bikes in these conditions.

I'm no fan of cars but the most impressive by a long shot I was ever a passenger in is my mates WRX. Don't know all the engine details but he opened it up across the heath and we were doing a ton in a blink of the eye. I really had to force my head forward to get it off the headrest and all I could think was - would I be able to beat this on the bike? And all in the refined relaxed atmosphere of a family saloon - nearly.

I'd have one if I had 15k spare.

But then if I did have 15k spare........

I'd love to see a picture of the 'clown car'!

We had a lad lodging with us some years ago, 18 and got his first car, Fiesta Xr2 (or 3 or whatever) only of course it wasn't, it just looked like one. When I was in a car club year ago the term 'boy racer' was a derogatory one - our members did the real thing - but the lad was proud to be called a boy racer.

He had a lot of problems with that car. Well you would I spose, if you favourite occupation is, line em up, rev em as high as you can then drop the clutch in and see who's first to break a drive shaft........

He couldn't understand why the garage wouldn't honour the warranty.......

Maybe an Scooby would, but its got its deficiencies.

Its not a bike, it can't filter, it can't get to the head of the queue at roadworks, it needs a petrol tanker hooked up (if you use its performance), finally its one of the ugliest cars on the road (spesh the new one)

These are exactly the reasons why we love bikes in these situations, as soon as you hit traffic, you just leave the cars behing, whatever they are!
