This looks eminently sensible to me. After all, "...passengers who sat side-saddle rarely fell off." I wonder if that's more or less rarely than passengers "straddling" the bike.
Could open up a whole new branch of rodeo style sport for trackdays. Obviously, it would be irresposible to suggest that such antics would be popular on favourite stretches of road, like The Cat and Fiddle or the road from Hawes to Ingleton.

However in UK, Highway Code Provision 85 states:
85
You MUST NOT carry more than one pillion passenger who MUST sit astride the machine on a proper seat. They should face forward with both feet on the footrests. You MUST NOT carry a pillion passenger unless your motor cycle is designed to do so. Provisional licence holders MUST NOT carry a pillion passenger.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 23, MV(DL)R 1999 reg 16(6) & CUR 1986 reg 102

Eh, right. Obviously my attempt at humour has failed miserably. I'll get my coat.

Dusty, I think you're on to something there !
Side-saddle Pillion Passenger Races....
Need to sort some rules out though, are pillions allowed to use any form of anchoring device or just rely on balance and balls ?
Do side saddle pillions always face the same side or would it alter from race to race ?
Could we have wild hippo's trackside, ready to be released the second a pillion leaves the seat? This may encourage a more competitive performance

No it was appreciated - I just had a quick look at the forum before shutting my pc down to go home and forgot to show appreciation for the humour.
I just thought it ironic how there are different approaches to the same thing in different parts of the world.
A bit like going quick - fine on autobahns, the IOM and presumably other places too. Here you are demonised and if caught, fined or even jailed.

When I was a youngster back in nineteen hundred and frozen-to-death, it was the law in Rome - not sure about other parts of Italy - that girls could only ride side saddle. I think that was something to do with mini-skirts.........
