forum activity levels

My main hobby is sailing so I haunt the yachting forums. For those who have never seen them they are
http://www.ybw.com/forums/index.php What's noteable for a sport that is nothing like as popular as biking is the high levels of activity .
By contrast, and this is no criticism of Ridersite, the level of activity on the biking forums I have found so far is low. And whats more , much of outside Ridersite it is a bit young / immature. Nothing wrong with that but where do you go for adult chat apart from here?
Why do you reckon that is? Or have I simply missed the big biking forums?

Often true - but it tends to be a bit more seasonable. We've been a bit more quiet over recent weeks - and occasionally it goes very quiet but it always picks up.

We might not be able to do the young but Pete and I try hard at the immature - some would say we carry it off with ease
The Falco section of AF1 has a reasonably mature crowd (though Pete and I frequent there too) and I think the FutFut section probably does too.
I used to visit a number of other bike forums but seldom do any more

I am similar to andy - well, slimmer, darker hair but you know what I mean
I do haunt a couple of other places - mainly AF1 falco section - and sometimes the tech sections for the falco for a couple of other sites - I am the resident groomer after all
I guess I am biased - this is home

When I had my kwaka ZRX 1200r the forum for that was always busy.
In fact I went on there tonight(after 3 days absence) and there was 200+ new posts.
I think that's quite busy

The other bike place I visit is Bikers Oracle VFR forum, as they have a section devoted to the older (1986-89) VFR750s and I run one of them - have done for most of the last 23 years, in fact. Grand old bikes, they are.
But the atmosphere here is so much better than on the BO forum. There everything is structured according to if you're a Sponsor (or Super Sponsor...) or not. If you're a plain vanilla 'Registered User' you have no access to PMs, you can't buy or sell on the forum (and that rule is rigidly enforced) and there's a definite air of 2nd class citizen.
It's weird, but I will happily contribute a tenner here from time to time towards the forum upkeep and be glad to do so, but on BO I resent the fact I'm being coerced (and quite unsubtly so) into contributing the same amount. Consequently RS gets my dosh (and my and Mrs Mango's GiffGaff referral fees) while BO gets nowt...
So - when do we get a VFR750 RC24 section on Ridersite?

You want a forum?
A bona fide forum..... Shit lads - work out the sponsorship level for this...
(One of us will sort something - Andy's getting his joints lubed, the hobbits on a promise, mart has his beard curlers in and apparently I have to service Hanna.....)

We did have a Honda section but Environmental Health shut it down due to the dilapidated state through disuse. The cobwebs in there were something to behold.
Don't think the Honda chaps wanted to play (even those on here who have a Honda in their stable)

We did have a section for VFR's.. in HondaRiderSite when it was going. I killed it off as nobody used it to be honest.
However if your VFR guys wish to have a bit of the forum for themselves, theyre more than welcome to intermingle on here and we can chuck up a couple of forums.. one for tech for the VFR and one for Chat for VFR owners.
As for tiers of membership, what a crock of shit. Never have liked the idea, we had it on here but that was really just an add-on Hammy had created for hosting pics in a gallery on here. It went with the switch to V4 of RS. There's only 3 levels on here. Member, Mod or Admin, the last two being solely for keeping the forum ticking over. Other than that there's just the post whore counter which gives different titles or 10 quid buys people special titles.. but they are that, just a title.
Everyone is a sponsor here, whether by content they put into the Site, money they throw at the pot or things we do for the Site offline in the frsh air, such as rideouts and events. I couldnt dream of creating levels of sponsorship without alienating people.. which just isnt what its all about.

It just occurs to me that I'd prefer to be talking about VFRs (and general bollocks) in the same place I talk about Falcos (and general bollocks). Agree entirely about the tiers of membership (a.k.a the seven levels of hell). It's rubbish and I really don't like it.

I love this forum! Even though I no longer have a Falco which seems to be the main bike on here, I keep my eye on this section. If you think this is quiet, buy a BMW K12 and join one of those sites. Sometimes tumbleweed blows across the screen when you log on!

This is not a Falco forum!
Or even an Aprilia forum!
Although - hgang on - it's RiderSite - and 'RiderSite is what you make it'
Ok, it's not
entirely an Aprilia forum......

Oyy I resemble that
Must admit don't spam like I used to, must be an age thing, oh and the lack of a certain individual, who will forever be in my thoughts.
