Bought a 2008 GS1200 this weekend. :smt003

Had a SMIDSY 5 years ago and whilst I had a KTM990 for a year after that, my wife wasnt happy with me riding and so I sold up and bought the next best thing to a bike - a Lotus Elise R. But it is only the "next best" thing and after agonising for a few years ( dont do quick decisions :smt005 ) I decided to buy another bike. And of course keep the Lotus which is, as you all know, an investment and a diversification of the family assets base. So a good thing and better than an ISA.

Can't see me doing lots of miles but I will be packing some sandwiches and having a day pottering about the Brecon beacons on the bike. For some reason, I could never do this in the car and I missed it. Probably a speed issue. I dont ride fast as you can see from the bike choice. But in the Lotus I find it really difficult to travel at less than warp factor 5.

So first task - get the bike cleaned up and polished and the corrosion dealt with. How BMW can charge £15 k for a new bike and paint and plate so badly I do not know.

both! particularly "her indoors" who got herself really wound up about it.

tbh I still feel a bit rotten going ahead with it, but a pal of my age just dropped dead three weeks ago and that made up my mind for me. you only live once

Nope.

A GS 1200 eh, no slomo that bike and its a real wheelie machine.

You need to go to the alps with it, you won't stop grinning as you pass all the sports bikes.

Enjoy and welcome back :smt003

I reckon you've done the right thjing Lazarus - remember fat Harry? He gave up bikes cos he thought they were dangerous and has had various accidents since then including falling off a stepladder and putting himself in hospital!

Or are YOU FH?

Well done, Lazarus! I can empathise with your dilemma and eventual decision. I kept away from bikes while my children grew up but the passion for bikes was too strong to resist permanently and I succumbed 6 years ago. Like you, I like nothing better than a day trip with a flask of coffee and sandwiches, and you just wouldn't do that in any car, even your lovely Lotus! The GS is an excellent bike; I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Definitely poodle with me riding. I'd change my ID to BikerGramp ( fully qualified - 3 grandsons so far) if it didnt look a bit like propositioning BikerGran. :smt008
