The NastyBastard plc I work for contracts to the local authority collecting domestic recycling.
We have a fleet of about 40 lorries and 12 vans.
We constantly suffer from diesel thefts ( a footpath runs right past the lorry park)
We loose £750 to £2000 or more in fuel a week but the manager does not seem to think this is a problem BUT insists we MUST reduce our running costs.
This hasnt been reported to the law,despite a clear pattern emerging...
we fill up at 3 garages, all the lorries being drained fill up at only one garage and its only the wagons filling up in the aftrnoon that get hit

Most definately.. on the qt though as that smacks to me of the boss being in on it. I'd go absolutely mental if it was happening to the fleet we have at work and thats me, old and fed up with the whole army thing! if someone is on the take i'd either want them castrated or a decent cut.. and as he doesnt want someone castrated.....

Set up a sting. If there's a definite pattern, then you should be able to catch um. Film it all and send it to the dibble.

Does anyone know where I can get some cheap diesel




And yes, they need to be caught.

Dunno but I hear Bath might be a place to go for a starting point

Maybe the boss knows phoning dibble is as much use as installing security checks at an afghan airport

actually, I would call customs and excise - say it is a revenue fraud for VAT


for those who are not aware - Customs and Excise have far more power than the police - you are not presumed innocent - you have to prove you are not guilty....

I think in the circs I'd want to be anonymous - call Crimestoppers.

Im sure the garage is in on it, if you fill up on a friday on your way back to the yard, its guaranteed you wont have any diesel on monday morning.
Its only full tanks that are drained.
The boss says the cost of securing the lorry parking area is more than the value of the fuel. Bollox
He's in on it too
He also says by comparison to Bristol and Weston Supermare, the cost is nothing.
So D/R, free diesel at Keynsham nr Bristol, Weston Supermare and Bristol,
Self Service only at these depots, own cans reqd

As has been mentioned, get Customs and Excise on to it. They don't need warrants or court orders to investigate. Theft is theft, and the diesel will be being sold on without having duty paid. This is what they'll be interested in. You can make an anonymous call to them also.

Not sure I agree that it's a matter for HMRC. The duty and VAT will have been paid if it's already in vehicle tanks so HMRC have had their cut. It's a straightforward theft surely?

You are confusing ordinary pump supplied diesel with Red diesel.

Red diesel has reduced duty and can only be used by certain vehicles, but even so, if red diesel was stolen it would still be a straight forward theft not a customs and excise offence

Trying to highlight an avenue that may be worth exploring. For every black market litre of fuel sold, HMRC miss out on that duty. Fully understand about gas oil and that the duty has already been paid on the stolen fuel.
