Driving (my car) along yesterday minding my own when I passed one of those VOSA camera vans that I think check your number plate for tax etc.
Went through the mental checklist.......... speed... ok : Tax.. ok : Insurance.. ok : MOT.. erm.. oh shit ! it's due in April isn't it?
When I got home today I checked and it's run out. So test will be booked next week BUT...
Anyone know if they check this and if so what's likely to happen?

thats ok as long as you've got a fail or a new mot for that day.vosa will allso know if your car was logged on at a test station that day.

If you have a friendly MOT bloke, tell him and I'm sure he'll say you were booked in for Monday (or some such)

I had pretty much the same problem once.
Got it sorted in much the same way as above

Yes, I will have to see what I can arrange tomorrow.
As it's all computerised now it may be impossible to "fix" - we shall see.
How long do I have to sit here wondering if an envelope will pop through the door?

Go and get an MOT today!
Day off work is cheaper than fines and points etc

I often drop a vehicle off days before and tell em to fit it in when they can.
Dodgy excuse I know, but you got a better suggestion?
... and as Jason points out I'm sure you will have realised the urgency.

Can't fix anything mate, not now it's on line, as they will log any fails via the computer system. Then again I wouldn't worry yet, most of these VOSA vans are using ordinary speed cameras there are very few of the super clever ones that can check everything. For example South Yorks Police haven't got one of their own yet but did borrow one off another force recently and caught loads, so they are planning to get some.
Keep your fingers crossed, but get an MOT quick!
I've forgotten to test the wife's car in past but now it's all on computer it won't be long before you get a reminder (NIP) in the post if you forget!

Why they don't send you an MOT reminder beats me - like they do for road tax (or TV license) - particularly as the MOT has some bearing on safety/roadworthyness
..... but now they have a better way to catch you and fine you, there's little chance of that being introduced.
Let's face it, who of us has not forgotten to do this at some time or other - not because we are trying to avoid it but just because it's not at the forefront of our minds within our busy schedules. With more of us having more than one vehicle to look after, the chances of forgetting one of them for a week or two become greater.
I guess I should diarise it .... but I know I'm not the sort of person who is sufficiently organised to do this every year.

we've forgotten a couple of times...... the worst being six months before we realised

MOT's are recorded, but not appointments to take the vehicle in.....

Yes I am hoping I'm just being paranoid. Having never had a NIP (yes - really) I've no idea how long they take. Just wondering when I can start to relax.
