I would like to share an experience with you all if I may.

My 91 year old Mother was taken ill and moved into hospital, After a couple of weeks she got worse and the doctors informed me that nothing more could be done and nature would take its course.. I emailed my son who lives in Australia and informed him that his beloved Nana (She was like a mother to him when my ex buggered off) was on critical list. This morning the phone rang and it was him telling me that he had the email. We talked about how he loved his Nan and I said what a wonderful mother she had been to me, and I was looking at the clock which said 9.40. He said goodbye and keep him informed and put the phone down, as I walked away the phone rung again and the Staff Nurse informed me my Mother had died at 9.40 the same time as we were saying how much we loved her. I wonder if somehow she knew how we felt and just peacefully slipped away. I have never ben particularly religious but I have such a feeling now. Anyway thanks for bearing with me.. John

Glad you found a bit of reassurance in that.

:smt001 91 is a bloody good innings!

I am sure she does know how you both felt. Im not particularly religious either, but Yes, I think you are right! She undoubtedly does know how you both felt.

Like Sam says, Thoughts are with you and your family.

She would deffo have known Gempip - those who came to welcome her to the next stage would have made sure of that, in fact I wouldnt be surprised if they 'arranged' your phone call with your son.
91 is surely a very great age - but it doesn't make it any less hard to bear does it? thoughts with you and your family.

*hugs* It's a strange feeling when you become 'the tallest tree in the forest'.

RIP Mum.

Similar sort of thing happened when my dad died - he was in hospital, me and mum were at home, we were woken at 3am by a big bang - thought there'd been a car crash on the road outside, but nothing there. Had a cuppa and went back to bed. In the morning the hospital phoned to say my dad had died at 3am. It's something to with all those senses that have almost atrophied cos we don't use them, it seems that at times of heightened emotion they come back into play.

Condolences Gempip.

When I was a kid I was on holiday in Spain with my parents and my Fathers watch stopped at 3PM, which we found out was exactly the time his Sister died back in the UK.
