Speed camera

Every so often I pass a forward facing speed camera, the yellow box type. When I am in the car I know how it is going to get me if I speed, now I'm riding the bike every so often I wonder how it could work as I have no front plate to register.

Not bothered about speeding throught it as it is placed in such a way that you can't even if you tried, basically a tax gatherer, but thought I would ask anyway.

after going through two mobile cameras over the last two days which thankfully appear to have only been forward facing I hope that no is the answer :( anyway whenever I have done it I have not received a ticket so either I have not been speeding or they don't work on bikes or they had no film in

That said they don't work on lorries either as they vcant go above 60 where they are restricted to 40 I mean cripple the motorists not the businesses

And with apologies to Kirsty Macoll

Oh darling why'd you drive so fast
Another bike just flew past tonight
And now the cameras coming in
And I can't win and it ain't right

You tell me all you've done at speed
And all the places you have gone over limits without me
Well I don't really want to know
But I'll stay quiet and then I'll have a go
And you won't have no cause to flash your lights at me

There's a guy on the bridge hes got a camera
oh shit the git he's dressed in blue
There's a guy on the bridge hes got a camera
oh shit the git he's dressed in blue

Oh coppers you're so unpopular
You're the worst thing on the road today...
With your unmarked cars and foreign camera vans
News is you charged your mother with speeding too

And now I'm lying on the dole
'Cause you're out there on the prowl
To get some car going fast in York
I can hear you laughing now and
I can't help feeling that somehow
You don't serve the public no not at all

There's a guy on the bridge hes got a camera
oh shit the git he's dressed in blue
There's a guy on the bridge hes got a camera
oh shit the git he's dressed in blue

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
Just like you swore to the public you'd be true
There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
he's just a liar not a twat like you
I said he's not a twat wish I could say the same for you
I said he's not a twat unlike you
He's only a liar but the biggest twat is you

On the way back from the Club Aprilia meet in Peterborough I was happy pooting along at 40 in a 40 zone and noticed a Ferrari in front and don't get to overtake them very often, so downed a gear and passed it but didn't notice the camera on my left oops. £60 and 3 points me thinks :smt010

I got done on tuesday

village of grimstone was a 40 mph speed limit last week

Monday, new signs went up - 30 mph limit

tuesday, nice young man waved at me - obviously loved the diesel mondeo....

much to his disgust I did not have my licence on me, and nor was i especially keen on his desire to give me a yellow love letter - but, seems like I won three points - and points make prizes... the prize this time being a lovgely donation of £60 to the police ball fund

I said "Thanks Stable" - well, I hardly knew him so did not want to call him by his first name......

Speed cameras only catch people from behind - when the camera is the other side pointing towards you the marks on your side of the road are there for pics of overtaking vehicles.

I was under the impression that the cameras linked to average speed detectors only photo from the front and therefore are cheatable on a bike.
Sounds way too good to be true so probably is ?

Average speed cameras rely on front facing number plates

I am gutted every time I use the a14

I wouldn't be too sure about that - I managed to get a ticket for doing 49 in a 50 limit (since I was driving an artic and should only have been doing 40). Seems that some of these cameras are clever enough to know how large/heavy your vehicle is.

As for front-facing cameras, my underrstanding is that they can't catch you on their own but if you happened to be observed going through one the photo could be used alongside evidence given by the witness. This has also caught people out when passing Police camera vans that only photograph the front, since the nice man inside apparently sits on a swivel chair and manually takes down your registration.

When my hubby was trucking he got stopped going West along the A303.

Later on he was coming back along the A303 and........ yep, same copper, other side of the road.

"Not being very clever today are we sir? "

There have been cases where bike riders have been done with forward facing cameras by identifying "unique features" of the bike and rider/kit that appear in the photo.

Even if they couldn't catch you, I think we would do ourselves no favours at all by speeding through them.
Too many unpunished bikes speeding through and we all become identified as a problem and if we're a problem, we become a target .... even more than we already are.

Best to have fun where none of the cameras are and be good boys and girls when the cameras can see you - whether or not they can see your plate.

Sorry Pete but you are wrong on this one!
We have special ones in our area, set up rear facing, just to catch bikes, like on the A631 at Beckingham just outside Gainsborough, they were put in just for that purpose.
