After being spoiled with 4 days in France on wonderful smooth roads, arrived back home to our lumpy and potholed ones.
How the feck do they keep theirs so nice with more space per vehicle, than ours.
I think our government should be prosecuted for the state of them.

Less people on them.
Plus they drive on the other side, so use more of the surface.

So less people on them plus a hell of a lot more roads and less taxation makes roads better does it?

I suspect they just spend more money on them.
Unfortunately the French economy is on a bit of a slippery slope at the moment. It all seemed a bit too good to be true a few years ago when we were always looking to them as shining examples in healthcare, infrastructure etc.
Shame coz I love France

I also noticed that when they resurface a road, they get 20 miles a day done, not like here where 20 miles takes 2 years.

It's because of the supplying agencies. They cant produce the tarmac in big enough quantities!
Just ask Jez Clarkeson! He'll tell ya!

Rubbish, it's because in britain they don't get on with the job! Got various Bridge works going on locally on our bypass which is choc a bloc with traffic from easter all thru the summer - the sign says the works will be going on for 15 weeks!!! Why? Well most of the time there's no-one there doing anything!

Couldn't agree more, when they were adding the extra lanes on the M25 (Junction 16 to 12) they even gave the road workers portable lounges, no wonder it took 2 years to complete they spent three quarters of their time on their arses

I reckon this will become a hot topic with the new insurance classes coming out. The insurance classes are going up to around 50 different classes with your vehicle weight being factored in now because you cause more road damage ......... ermmmmm... isn't that what your road tax is for???
