Re: so folk understand
From what I've read Pete, it's the hopeless cases they're disposing of. They'll hang on to the profitable ones as long as they can, I reckon.Aladinsaneuk wrote:I do not know if the home I manage is one of the ones scheduled for sale - I fear it may be as I have turned it around to being profitable.
Best of luck.

Mrs Willopotomas' place has been 'red flagged' by the inspectorate. I know why, but can't do anything about it. The sooner they get rid of the lazy and feckless staff, the sooner these places will prosper. Some people seem to think they're owed some sort of favour by employers.. Really does my nut in when she comes home from work and tells me staff have been sleeping on the job.. Sometimes I don't think they realise the amount of responsibility they have.. If someone dies in their care and the coroner rules it was down to mistreatment, then they're up on a manslaughter charge.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

I am glad to say that my own place will have no redundancies.... but the media shit storm is now hitting the fan
there is a key meeting on 12th july - i suspect that things will be decided by then - if not before. there are rumblings from the landlords - apparently they had not agreed to the rent reduction, southern cross just did it LOL and i strongly suspect that some of them will be getting ready to change care providers
scary times for some staff though

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Better news for now then Pete, hope it stays that way!
On the overall side, surely the goverment can't ultimately allow Southern Cross to fold. It would lead to the general collapse of care homes all over the country.
We have 20 or 30 S.C. Care homes in South Yorkshire alone, to put it into perspective, RMBC only have two, (new large), Authority run care homes left, all the others have been closed or sold off. Numerous other homes sold off earlier by local councils are now in administration in our area.
Even something so special like the "Big Society" could/would not cope with the issues if large numbers of private homes nationally failed.
Then again perhaps S.C.'s top bloke could put some of them up for free in his £77 milion worth of homes around the world.
Looks like we're stuck with Care in the Community for ever in the long term.
Anybody got any decent cardboard boxes, at my age I think I may need to start stockpiling them for my future!

Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.
This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment,
wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped
instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and
returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and
snacks to their cell.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling,
pool and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on
request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
Each senior could have a PC a TV, radio and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would
have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.
The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.
Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay
£600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Chuffed to bits you're looking ok. Heard the radio news earlier mentioning southern cross and 3k redundancies. Not good times, for inpatients just as much as carers.
*edit*

You sounded a bit happier on the phone earlier. Good news then.

Good news for now Pete.
Sadly I am going to Birmingham tomorrow to be told and then brief my dept of 30 people that our section doesn't feature in the new structure. Probably 4 jobs at my grade but about 11 of us will be pitching for them. Most of my team will have no chance of redeployment in the business. We will all get our "risk of redundancy" notice tomorrow and then see what plays out over the next 8 weeks.
Bugger !

Pete - glad things are looking better for you.
Dave - sorry to hear of your news - hope you keep your job.
It's bad out there at the moment .... and we've not felt the full impact of the cuts yet.
My wife does 2 part time teaching jobs and has been made redundant from both during the past year - but, fortunately has managed to replace each of them with 2 similar jobs.
My eldest son has hardly worked since graduating - nothing for the past year.
My youngest son has a few weeks temporary work - but that will soon run out.
My middle son is a student - so at least I don't have to worry so much until he graduates and finds there's nothing out there.

Good luck tomorrow Dave and good luck with the staff.
I've been in that position in the past with what was a really good team and it really hurt to tell 2/3rds of them there was no job. Hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Not a pleaseant situation for either of you but there are old cliche's that ring true. Every cloud has a silver linning. So keep your perspective and when you get home from havng to deal with the crap take the bike out for bit.
I was made redundant two years ago and after a year of working for my self part time suplemented by the redundancy money, I got another job and now having completed my first year I can truely say, it provides me a better quality of life than the one I was made redundant from.
Your health , your familly that's important, this job or that job well IMNSHO, not in the same leaugue.
