If you're posting goods to the UK, or ordering them from a non-EU country, you only have to pay Customs Duty above a certain value.
Thats where the fekked it up for you on their customs paperwork..
If theyd valued it at £19.50 you'd have been ok! But wouldve run the risk of losing 170 quid on the claim if it had been lost in transit.
Dontcha just love our Island.. Rule Britannia. Just dont forget to pay the Import...

Bit like Scotland really ... we sort of tolerate em.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

You?
When you buy goods from a business in UK, you pay VAT to the business at the relevant rate, which they in turn pay to the tax man
When the goods come in from an overseas company, the tax man realises he aint gonna get a return of VAT from that overseas business, so a fee is applied as Import tax to the item. Again, as for VAT you pay it but instead of like VAT where you pay it to the business you're buying from, you pay it to the tax man's purse direct at the port of entry.
Goods under 9 quid dont attract import tax

Me mate in Jersey has informed me that you're liable to pay import duty.. Buggah!
