Further suggestion - euphorbia, planted beneath the prickly stuff. Low-growing, bushy, hardy, shade-tolerant. Its sap, released when e.g. trampled, can cause blisters on the skin. Not recommended if young children have access.

Hi all,

Well done fella! Yes, trellis is the way to go, use about 3 feet high. And your lovely roses will do just fine :smt002 After all, it's just to make a big noise incase you have unwelcome guests. May I suggest a paintball gun next to the bed :smt003 So, the plod can identify the scumbags when running away :smt004

Further to the work we did earlier in the year with the "Northern Defences", I've now just plugged the final gap and the Southern Boundary is now closed.
Thought it about time I posted a few pictures of this.

Joe (my youngest) built me a lovely tall brick wall between us and next door and I've just completed the installation of the Portcullis (more usually referred to as a roller shutter).
It was a bit of an unconventional installation - most of the roller shutter companies didn't think that it was possible to do what I wanted .... though the fact it's now installed suggests otherwise ....

Similar to the Bat Cave, it has powered opening and so far I'm really pleased with it.

I still need to re-profile the drive a bit as the slope leaves the slats at a bit of an angle when it's shut, but that's a detail in terms of security.

suggest a coupleof dummy cctv cameras and a security light

oh - and some search lights and machine gun towers....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Nice work Andy,

It certainly looks pretty solid, hopefully enough to put off most theiving scum, might be an idea to get some vandal paint all over the top of that wall and the roller shutter mechanism

Failing that a bloody big Doberman normally works! :smt003

Had the lights for ages

Might add some cctv but having just stopped it being an open-access walk in garden, I think that I've done the most important bits.

Not aiming to make it Fart Knox as I can't afford the gold.

Does look good. :smt001

I'd be very careful it doesnt act like a sail in the wind..

thinking of our roller doors at work and the force a decent wind puts on them..

(not dissing the job.. just.. saying..!)

Yeah I have wondered about that .... but then, is it very different to sticking any other type of big gate up there?

I shall be taking note of storm warnings and be prepared to "furl the sails" if necessary
