Personal contract law, anyone know the law?

I doubt very much that its a contract in a legal sense of the word, and certainly the college isnt going to sue her for breach if she doesnt fulfill it. Much more likely its by way of college rules and what they are trying to deal with is attendance and discipline problems that they have had with the whole group or previous groups. So in effect they are saying "these are the rules of the game, promise to follow them or dont come to our college" and they are trying to get parental support since as you are illustrating, most parents support their kid, right or wrong, and not the teachers.

Sorry Laz, can I just point out that what TC said waslazarus wrote: they are trying to get parental support since as you are illustrating, most parents support their kid, right or wrong, and not the teachers.
That's not, my kid right or wrong, that's 'be fair to my kid'.The issue I now have is that the 12 who have stayed on have been required to sign this contract, but the new kids and those who have moved up have not been required to sign anything
If children are treated unfairly at school, how are they ever going to learn to behave fairly in life? It's more than just the contract, it's a matter of principle. I had a situation with a teacher where a matter of principle was involved when Lucy was in the first school, and I was amazed how many people simply didn't understand why it was so important (fortunately the head did).
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
Dangerous ground this BG since its TC's kid - and he can no more be dispasionate about her than I could or you could.
Yes its discrimination. The kids who have moved up passed the exams presumably. The ones that newly artrived are an unknown. But the one who are re-taking are doing so because they didnt do well (presumably) and the college clearly thinks there are behaviour issues that caused this.
Think back. Did your parents really know what you were like away from home and in college? Mine didnt and its a damn good job they didnt. But the teachers had a much better idea.

I think I have already mentioned that her behaviour has never been in question, in fact everyone at her school compliments us on how well behaved she is.lazarus wrote:Dangerous ground this BG since its TC's kid - and he can no more be dispasionate about her than I could or you could.

I actually spoke to the teacher who instigated this "Contract", and when I asked why only a few kids were being discriminated, she had no answer.
I asked, is it because of her behaviour? "No!" Is it because of her grades? "No!" Is it because she has chosen to retake that year? "No!" Have all kids been asked to sign? "No!" Can you tell me why then you have singled out one or two of the kids rather than the whole 6th form? Again she could not give me an answer.
So I politely advised her that I would countersign once everyone had been treated the same and not until. I gave her my business card and said she was welcome to call me once she had decided on what course of action she was going to take, at which point her face went quite a brilliant shade of purple

To date, nothing more has been said

Nice approach TC .... the encounter with that teacher would have been a joy to behold.
I have a lot of time for teachers - my wife is one, my sister is one, I know quite a few ..... but when my kids were at school I also encountered the breed of teacher that is arrogant and full of their own importance. Great when those get their come-uppance.

Face to behold!
Hi all,
Yes, TC you definately gave a truly worthwhile valid argument. I wish I was there to see her reaction, that would of been priceless my friend. You made your position clear, and, by the most of the human race, a fair point of view. Her draconian attitude was shot down in flames
Guess, no reply means your daughter won't have to adhere to that so-called "contract!"
Top notch
