Supermarkets are still making their huge profits.

To do this they are paying less to their suppliers, who in turn are having to use cheaper products.

Everything is now manufactured down to a price rather than up to a level of quality. This has lead to a drop of approx 30% of our sales.

I'm waiting for comments from our members dahn under. Seems to me this "Global" recession isn't biting as hard in the southern hemisphere?

My job should be safe but Mike's is looking increasingly shaky (at an independent newsagent) and at his age - 70 today - he's not likely to get another.

I was hoping only to work another couple of years after hitting 60 but I guess I'll just have to keep on keeping on - I do appreciate how lucky I am to have that option even if it's becoming increasingly harder to do it.

Oh no tisn't! He doesn't go anywhere near bikes or trikes!

He had an extremely happy birthday thanks, everyone kep buying him brandies and he kept drinking them!
