Now now children!
I happen to know a number of posties so I know a bit about the way they work, and i also know that when Mike was working for an agency and spent a week at Parcel Force he told the agency he would leave them rather than be sent back to Parcel Force ever again!
I can only speak for myself of course but I think the Post Office is shite.
Not the people who do the work, but the management upwards!
I guess my statement above about knowing some posties isn't entirely accurate - I should have added that some of them have recently become ex-posties cos they got fed up with inpossible workloads and being expected to do overtime without getting paid for it! (which was one of the things Mike objected to at ParcelForce).
However, I do think the ex-posties are somewhat wiser than the posties!

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

Let's be a bit more specific about our targets shall we? The posties work (or used to work?

I'm surprised none of our posties pointed any of this out.
...and who mentioned the GPO??? It was abolished in 1969.

I mentioned it ... abolished?! So who runs the post offices, delivers the letters and runs the Telephone System then?Goldie wrote:[

If I catch a train, I go by British Rail
I get my Electricity from the Electricity Board
I get my Gas from the Gas Board
I get my Water from the Water Board
I get my Plasters from the Plasterboard .... no hang on - that's not right ...
Who says I live in the past?
(It wasn't perfect ..... but Happy Days)
My opening remark about “shite” mail was meant to be a lighthearted analogy, I’m sorry.
My misguided attempt at explaining why Royal Mail does take quality of service seriously was obviously badly written and miss understood, I’m sorry.
My numeric calculations where unable to demonstrate why so many of our customers think we are totally useless, I’m sorry.
For still working for Royal Mail and not being wise enough to leave, I’m sorry.
For one fleeting moment, actually thinking a Harley Fatboy looked quite cool as it rode by, I’m sorry.
There we go five apologies, can we play nicely now.

Don't worry - the day I get into a cyber-row will be the day I walk on the moon.
I'm more than certain that anyone who gets out of RM is far better off as long as they have somewhere better to go. Personally - much as I dislike the way it is heading and the sheer incompetence of the management (and a proportion of the workforce) I still have no better option
The thing is - when I started here it wasn't a 'career move'. It was just the 'earner of income' that suited my lifestyle best at the time. Unfortunately I have let things slide and am still here several years later and find that things are going down the pan at an alarming speed.
Funny, but the RM is the only company I ever worked for where most staff do not strive for promotion. The options - Postman Higher Grade - Manager - are too awful to even contemplate and tend to attract those staff too lazy or inept to do the postperson job adequately. Frightening really and some indication of why we are where we are
As for the use of the term 'shite' ....... I am sorry to be dismissive but if we are honest and look at much of what lands on our doorsteps every day (almost said morning then!!) that's how we would describe it - no matter who we consider the customer to be. However it was just a word - perhaps ill chosen. How about bumpf? Junk? Rubbish? Rainforest?
............."if it's a bill you can take it back"
Oh ho ho ho

Hey Fausto, why use the term lifestyle, life maybe but style
.
A very good friend of mine has worked for the RM since leaving school, it was a good job when he joined but he's disheartened now and yet what are his chances of changing his job. It won't happen, he's 57.
He stuck it through the best years of his life so that his kids got 100% mum and dad support (terriffic kids BTW) but he's sacrificed any chance of a contented life.
He's also been promoted from off the delivery path as he's not as able as he was at carrying heavy post bags (I certainly wouldn't carry one, asking for a hernia).
Anyway they're coming here Xmas day and we'll have a great time moaning
