Brings back good memories :smt003 .....I too had a Capri 3000 xlr Howard, 1972 model imported from germany, black bonnet....great car :smt001

followed by a 3000 GXL ....and a 3000 GTXLR....The latter is still on the road and is owned by a Capri club member...it also appeared in a film....Reg' No OJJ 41K

Then came a Mini Cooper S ...bored out to 1293, ..LSD, Hi-Lo's, LCB Exhaust, Etc' and ...Reece Fish carb !! .....remember them Howard?

Mini was fitted with super oscars and if I remember right dipping oscars ...ha ha sounds like a breed of duck eh :smt005

I joined Lindholme Motorsports Club to rally but only did a few ....sold the mini and bought a new bike, Suzuki TS125. :smt005

Oh that brings back memories! Not of Derbyshire but the road round the reservoirs at Rhayader, same speed - I rode round there on the GT a few years ago and couldn't believe what we used to do in the old MkI Cortina - with the 4 Cibie Oscars blazing as well as the headlights which of course were wired so that we could use main beam and dip at the same time.

Happy days! When the RAC rally was the Castrol RAC and we all wore blue 'rally jackets' with loads of badges...... And we went off the road at T'yn y Graig when the lights failed and ended up jammed against a wall, and a vanload of Welshmen came along and one little short fat bloke picked up the back of the car and dragged it back up the slope while the others stood and watched!
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

Remember em all very well.
Wonder if anyone would have a clue what an LCB exhaust was these days ?? :smt003
I initially rallied a 1966 MK1 Lotus Cortina, then the Capri V6, and then kept the Twin Cam for quite a few years, but also had a MK II Lotus Cortina for a while with the Escort. Never really felt very safe in hot Mini Coopers. My mate had what was supposed to be one of the fastest in the country, had something like a 1450cc full race rally cross Cooper "S" motor in an "original lightweight" 1959 shell with alloy doors, fibre glass boot, bonnet and roof panel and absolutely everything else ripped out. It probably weighed less than a Falco! LSD fully torqued up, it was absolutely unsteerable, regularly steered itself into a field under power but usually took out one or more drive shafts well before then. The other good thing was the induction, it a 45mm twin choke Del Orto on a swan kneck manifold, but the only way to fit it was through the centre of the dash where the speedo used to be, with just big bell mouths on the end.
It was absolutely deafening inside the car, and to make it worse it was always spitting flames into your face, once had the maps on fire!
Have never driven anything so evil in my life, 2 or 4 wheels. :smt077
Sorry, gettin nostalgic, will shut up now before I bore this lot to death :smt015 . or get moved to another section! Were great times though!
Was with One-Eleven MC, Rotherham MC and Sheffield and Hallamshire at different times. Did you ever know Mick Wakelin from Lindholme, he lived near me for years befere I moved.

Certainly were happy days, once had a similar situation in Derbyshire. Arrived at a "not as map" series of corners, what should have been a 30 right was actually a 90 with a 3 foot wide tree 2/3 way round. Came in way too quick, so decided on the only "escape route" up a grass bank at about half way round the corner, (didn't really fancy a fight with the tree at 70). Was doin fine for about a second, then went over the top of the bank, through a barbed wire fence and there was a dry stone wall with a hawthorn tree in it on the steep downward side. Airborne over the brow by now so flew into the middle of the tree, on top of the wall, with barbed wire wrapped around everything. Wish I'd had a camera, couldn't see how we'd ever get it out!!!
About 20 spectators appeared and managed to lift us off in about 30 minutes and we were able to drive it home, just pissed off at being OTL.

Also used to drive all round the country following the RAC, a real rally in those days Nottinghamshire, North Yorkshire, Kielder, Scotland, Lake District and then all the way round bloody Wales.....Magic.
You said it happy days :smt007 :smt007
