Well, we went. Half way through I was taken ill but had to endure to rest of the trip not able to walk or eat or do anything for myself. Got home, managed somehow to drive home but within an hour I was in Hospital.

Turns out I have suffered heart failure,(which is different to a heart attack) I have had 16kg of fluid removed from my lungs and feet so far and for the first 2 weeks in Hosital I was totally unaware of my surroundings.

I was unable to do anything, I can never recall being so zapped of strength or unable to walk 2 yards, I was unable to eat I was totally incapacitated.

I still have a way to go, but I was discharged yesterday after 4 weeks, appetite restored, still get out of breath but this will improve and I can do a lot more than I could even a week ago, and then once I can lie on my back after l the fluid has gone I can have the CT scan and tey can decide what type of pacemaker I have

My grateful thanks to everyone at the Royal Berks Hospital, CCU they have been outstanding

So just thought you may appreciate an update as to why I have not been around.
By heart failure do you mean cardiac arrest?
Its a long road back to proper health after that, but having met you, I'm sure you'll get there.

All the Best

I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"

You obviously did not read the original post properly :smt009

I suffered heart failure which is known as cardio myopathy and means the heart is damaged for life an has nothing to do with lifestye of anything else, and is often genetic (hence my daughter os being screened at the end of the month), whereas cardiac arrest or a heart attack can be a short term problem and is usually (apparently) down to lifestyle.

My condition can be controlled by medication, I am currently on 8 pills a day and possibly a pacemaker later, but unlike a heart attack where there is often pain, in my case there has been no pain at all, just an inability to walk more than 5 yards due to the fluid on my lungs and feet, severe shortness of breath, lack of energy, apetite and concentration.

It has taken 3 weeks to get me to a position where I could go home and for the first 2 weeks I was unable to wash myself, clean my teeth properly, eat or do anything other than sleep. It is the most horrible feeling not being able to do what most of us take for granted. Having been bed ridden for 3 weeks, the first time I was able to the bathroom properly was a real sense of achievement even though it took me 40 minutes.

Whilst I was n Hospital, heart attack victimss were kept in usually for no more than 48 hours and then discharged after their angiogram. I wil be having a CT scan as an out patient.

First shower in 3 and a half weeks took over 45 minutes with my wifes help, and again a real sense of achievment, whereas now I am in and out of the shower in normal time.

Unlike someone who had had a heart attack, I am limited to 1.5 litres of fluid a day, I cannot eat things like crisps, pork scratchings or salted peanuts, but anything else goes, and having had 33lb of fluid removed along with loss of appetite, I have actually lost over 5 stone, but I also have to weigh myself everyday and if I gain more than 4 - 5 kg then I am back to Hospital for more treatment

So in answer to your original question Peter, No it was not a cardiac arrest
It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world than 30 years early in the next

Did read it but not knowing the difference prompted me to ask, I'm only familiar with heart attack and cardiac arrest as members of my family suffered it years ago.

This is a shock - I thought traffic cops were heartless ☺

All the best for your recovery.

If folk want me too I can do a layman a write up

Will depend on the views of tc and bobbi - think that makes sense

Will be very very simple btw

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

TC's condition, as he said, is very different from mine. But I'm happy for you to write anything you want!

Yes please, I'm at a loss to what this condition is, maybe morbid curiosity, but I'm genuinely interested.
