Actually, it's not a religious book at all

Rather it looks at some ancient civilisations and postulates on extra terrestrial visitors

It's intriguing

Horse shit but interesting

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I enjoy that sort of thing but Chariots of the Gods and its author are flakier than the crumbliest, flakiest milk chocolate.

I'm not religious but I do try not to go round shitting on people.

It's much too long and involved to actually read from start to finish but very good to dip into, and it's quite surprising how much similarity there is between widely differing religions.
Have you read The New Believers by David V. Barrett? It briefly covers the religions of the book but mostly covers the many smaller offshoots and onto those on the fringe. Its interesting, even handed and very dip intoable.[/url]

There are many dictionary definitions of god, the one that naffs me off the most is Supreme Being, creator and ruler of the universe.
My own veiws tend to be on the pagan side of things.
Physics explain a lot of the creation of the world.
It is often said history is just the lies we have chosen to believe.

Didn't say it was you, did I? It's fairly general, and I don't take offence - life's too short for being offended, unless someone's doing it deliberately, then I'd just tell 'em! :smt002

I think Dr. Asimov has it about right:

"Emotionally, I am an atheist. I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly suspect he doesn't that I don't want to waste my time."

and other true words of wisdom here:

But we now do have the evidence.

Really?
I don't think so.

Evidence

#26 Post by GregD-UK » Mon Feb 17, 2014 5:23 pm

Hi all,

What evidence is that then? Turin shroud a fake, bible was written over a period of some nearly 200yrs by various people. There is no imperical evidence to actually prove anything really....

No there is no proof.

That's why Christianity, like other religions, is called a 'belief system'.

Some of us believe. We don't need to prove it, as we're allowed to believe it and if others don't believe it, they're allowed too!

Shame the same can't be said for all religions & beliefs..

In my youth I'd have been an atheist but the problem I had with any specific belief was that it denied the alternatives. Now I accept all possibilities. So when asked these days I am the lot..... Christian yes , Jew for sure, Muslim why not if you are are a Christian or a Jew you are splitting some pretty fine hairs not to be a Muslim... etc.
So maybe believing in everything is the same as in nothing, so that about rounds the circle.

Just seems a lot more positive to me.

That's why I generally describe myself as 'my own kind of Christian' - a lot of it crosses over from one to another.
