Tbh had a better day today, i quite enjoyed it.fatboy wrote:If you work outside, this is the hardest time of year, about to get harder when the clocks go wrong at the end of the month, dark when you start, dark when you finish, cold and wet......but....................
the shortest day is Dec 21st, then the days start to get longer again

I do work outside come rain or shine and i am not looking forward to the clocks changing

Just back from a week in China with work - completely screwed with jet lag while I was there so knackered as can be.
Now I'm back I'll be screwed with it again all this week
Then in 3 weeks time I'm off to Japan for a week so I can go through it all again for another fortnight.
Such fun.
... and some people seem to think that business travel is a jolly

Done my share of air ports and jet lag at time when a portable computer weighed a ton and a half, hence the slight drop on the right shoulder.
These days work is ok. Reasonably local so usually just a back road blast of 20 odd miles to get there. So I enjoy going to work. Its simillar on the way home but I usually enjoy that a tad more.

Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

How many more names will they think up for management harassment?
When I was still at work and the 'Voluntary Severance' option was offered, our management pissed us off so often and so completely that we thought they were trying to push us to leave - so as there was cash being offered, 6 out of 9 of us decided to go - and our manager was stunned! (which was rather pleasing
)
Will they ever learn that you don't get the best from people by putting them under stress?

Er bobbi thats not what i meant... Consultation period means they can make me redundant. I am not the only one who is under threat of redundancy, there is quite a few.BikerGran wrote:How many more names will they think up for management harassment?

I am updating my CV but do i jump before being pushed?. Redundancy does not worry me has such, but i am frustrated due to not knowing my plight. The company i work for has kept their cards close to their chest through out the merger and their intentions. A worrying time for a lot of people.

Yes I'm married to a primary school teacher - the public perception of the working week (and working year) of teachers is so far from the huge amount of work they put in ...... and all the subsidising of materials they provide to keep the classrooms functioning.musclebiker wrote:Become a Primary School teacher like me, all we do is sit around drinking tea, and a 9:00 - 3:00 working day is lovely.
60 hour weeks - not including weekend work

Sorry to hear the bad news about the "Consultation Period" Jay.
Hope it all works out for you.
Been through a slightly strange year myself, as the Council came back with a third year of voluntary redundancies and I finally went for it at the end of June as you know.
In my case it became a no brainer, as I was only 6 months off retirement anyway, I got more money this year by going than keeping working.
I still miss the job, as I was a workaholic for most of my life, but got away with a clean break.
A lot of people also took redundancy expecting to get new jobs and many have struggled. Think it through carefully before you jump, the only really safe way is to try and line something up before redundancy, but not easy at this time.
Good luck!
