I have an opinion has do you, and although the 60 limit was maybe not policed properly. i personally have never had a problem with the roads around where i live but i know the roads. My friend used to be in the fire service and used to tell me storys of a biker being de-capitated getting wrapped around a lamp posts and with witness accounts it was due to excessive speed, the road in question was between the roundabouts at Beckingham. between bawtry and gainsborough so what the police have done is put rear cameras on there to read bike number plates, these being time and disrance cameras. I personally do not agree with the 50 limit that has been imposed on any road and it should be policed at 60. But has i said before i do believe that more 50 limits are coming

Sorry but if you know this area well, have a look at where all the ASC Specs cameras are, forwards or backwards.
They are all there for money grabbing only!
A631 Gringley on the Hill cameras only on the dual carriageway.
The Beckingham stretch, again on the dual carriageway.
Bawtry to Everton stretch, again on the dual carriageway.
I could go on for hours about roads like this, in every case they are not on "dangerous" stretches of road they are just there to catch people who have been stuck behind a caravan, lorry or tractor and decide to overtake safely when they get to a dual carriageway.
This is exactly why these short stretches of dual carriageway were put in, to allow safe overtakes on busy A roads like this. Many people just do it naturally then get knicked.
Nothing about safety just money grabbing ordinary road users.

The bawtry to everton stretch is called scaftworth bypass and to be honest howard i dont know why the cameras are on there. But gringly bypass there has been a lot of fatalities over the years, and the last one involved children, again my friend from the fire service attended. this accident did not involve a bike to set the record straight. please believe me that cars on the bypass did over 100 mph up there, this 50 mph limit was not aimed at bikes. And yes yet again i do think the 50 limit is too slow and maybe 60 would have been better. I know the parents of these kids and has you pass the junction that go's over gringley hill itself you will see the shrine. so i dont think the time and distance cameras on there are for making money has i have a personal view on this occasion

I'm sorry about any accidents involving kids or not, but these cameras on dual carriageways do nothing to stop that. The people who know the cameras are on stretches like this and would normally overtake safely here, now make risky overtakes on the single carriageway stretches in stead, where there are no cameras.
This is exactly the same on the "Killer Stocksbridge Bypass"; you can travel all the way back over Woodhead from Manchester and never get a chance to pass the artic in front, until you get to the safe 2 lane up 1 down bit at the start of the bypass, you start to pull out to pass the lorry who by this time is doing nearly 60 and hey presto Specs cameras, what do you do then with a line of cars behind you, try to crawl slowly past before it goes to one lane again and take a chance, put your foot down and overtake safely, but get knicked, or jump on the brakes and hope you can get back behind the line of lorries again without being rear ended.
The only place you can pass are on the single carriageway bits with no cameras, exactly where most accidents have happened.
Safety cameras?
No bloody Cash Converters!
P.S.
Has anybody EVER seen a speed camera outside a school, I certainly never have, but would support one.

I know stocksbridge by pass and i know the cameras, But i dont know why it is has camera's on there. I do understand about the overtaking problem that you talk about. But i also think that in some cases their are underlying factors has to why the cameras are put up, and although there is a good element of drivers who do use the dual carriage ways safely. There is a select few that lets say take the piss. The camera's on the dual carrage way at beckingham were fitted has motor bikers were getting killed. There was a biking challenge which will take to long to explain which meant bikes were racing along there howard. I know i have witnessed it. Also what i have seen on beckingham roundabouts is bikers deliberatly block the entrances, so there mates can go round knee down the opposite way around the roundabout. There is a biking element AND car drivers alike that prompt the councils and police put these cameras up, and I think its more than making money in some cases but not in others and i can only comment on the area i know. I hope we agree or we will have to agree to disagree
